is anyone here still using this?
>>
Every medical practice I walk into seems to be using it, so in a sense, yes.
>>
If anyone still uses fucking XP, get the fuck out of /g/. Facebook might be more your speed.
>>
Yes at work we still have few devices running xp ... just because it's pointless for them to be updated.
>>
>>53241737
Fuck off daft cunt.

Using XP on an ancient netbook and it is fast as fuck. Tried all sorts of distros and Windows versions but XP, which it originally came with, is the best for the machine.

What's wrong with XP like?
>>
>businesses still using xp
>MAH COMPATIBILITY
>MAH COST SAVING
They're going to hate it when some fucking virus wipes all their shit out because XP isn't updated and supported any more and they have absolutely no recourse because THEY SHOULD HAVE FUCKING UPDATED

Fucking dumb, dumb, dumb, DUMB shit.
>>
>>53241785
No updates, enjoy your viruses, dumbfuck.

>i'm a poorfag that still has my mommy's early 2000s Dell as a hand-me-down
>>
Don't most bank machines still run XP? Seems like most offices do too.

I fucking hated that OS, It would rot so quickly a re-format was necessary every couple months.
>>
>>53241814
>enjoy your viruses

this is what somebody with no knowledge of computers, windows, or malicious software says in this exact situation
>>
>>53241785
XP is a horribly choice for any OS you do any sort of personal or serious work on.
It's insecure as fuck and you can consider any work, banking, or personal information you do on it to be available to the entire world.
Use Lubuntu already, even if it performs worse. The security upgrade is worth it.
>>
>>53241799
The versions of XP used in large businesses still gets updates
>>
>>53241844
>no knowledge of computers
Oh, right, thanks kid, you're so fucking smart with your absolute no experience in anything beyond fucking Windows XP like a little child.

Let me know when you're a fucking professional sysadmin that has to know his shit like me.

Oops.

>>
>>53241902
Aww, poor kid, I'm sorry I made you cry.

Go get a good PC and install a modern OS. It'll make you feel better. Maybe if you beg hard enough mommy will get one for you.
>>
>>53241889
I'm not the OP you fucking retard. I work as an intern at UCI helping maintain a supercomputer and all 500+ nodes of the network around it. But comparing e dicks is pointless, I actually work on quantum computers for the NSA so I'll know more about computers than your punk ass ever will

Many of the computers running XP nowadays for business are completely offline.

And even those that are online aren't vulnerable if you're not a fucking idiot like you apparently are.

Have fun being a "sysadmin"
>>
>>53241785
Far from true, xp runs like shit on my thinkpad, it came with xp on it, i run ubuntu butter smooth on it, and can even manage games like half life 2, which would not run when it had windows on it. Your doing something wrong.

two stations at my workplace still have xp
>>
Not personally but I do for business along with every other version of windows ever including 2000, 98, 95, 3.1, and DOS. Why, because businesses have them making money for them and they either care not the slightest to change or can't since it's proprietary and the company that made it died and it doesn't work on anything else. It's off the network of any form and they in some cases bought 3-4 extra identical workstations that never left the box and are waiting for when the first one dies, so they're never gonna change.
>>
>>53242085
Actually I do, until 2019.
>>
>>53241875
No, it doesn't.

Paid support and updated are two different things.
>>

I've seen it on other computers and it's slow as fuck

I don't get how anyone would prefer it over 7 and later

Still using it AND doing so from a socket 478 P2 to boot.

Not only do I use it, I make money with it. LAst year I made $120K between an XP VM's on my Win7 laptop and this XP desktop.

whoops... Socket 478 P4.

Yes. I use it for abandonware and games/VNs that don't run on WINE.
>>
>>53242554

I have a P3-933 Win98 box for that stuff.
>>
>>53242610
Some games, especially newer VNs, only run on XP and newest.
>>
My dad still uses a P4 w/ 1.5GB of RAM alongside an old Win98SE Compaq (for some old DOS based applications) - after my mom told me he still used the thing, I bought/built him a nice i7 rig and copied all his data in December - he apparently still uses the XP rig. Same shit happened
a number of years when the switch to HD happened - bought him a PC to replace the old, and all he ever used it for was rendering/editing, everything else was the P4.
>>
Botnets still are

you have to be using something seriously archaic and underpowered for xp to be better than any linux distro

POSReady 2009 is a stripped down Windows XP, only components POSReady 2009 contains receive updates, so the rest of your XP system is still outdated. Just install POSReady 2009 or use something else if you're concerned about updates.
>>
Some governments have made a deal with MS to keep updating their XP for a little while, since it's gonna take some time to upgrade their infrastructure. Not only do they have to pay for upgrading their infrastructure, they also have to pay for those updates, which they wouldn't have to pay for had they upgraded their shit sooner.

This, it's amazing how far behind the entire medical industry is. I did some work on a fakeraid awhile back for some extra cash. The guy was running an MSDOS program in XP for the X-ray machine. Upgradability is nonexistent because it's fucking 16-bit code! Not to mention that this was running on an old Pentium Fire-Hazard.

Yes, I have three computers, one thinkpad with Windows 7, a laptop with Windows 8 and a desktop computer running Windows XP, since XP isn't supported by Microsoft updates anymore I never have the desktop comp connected to the internet. It's that simple, no internet, no viruses
>>
>>53244078
Well here's the question: is it really that far behind if it does the job as well as can be done?
Medical, military, policing etc.... If the equipment doesn't require it, you don't do it. That's when shit breaks..... You try to make something perfect better.
>>
>>53244152
>You try to make something perfect better.
MSDOS was anything but perfect. This involved an internet-connected machine, not some box in the corner that no one ever logs into.

Only in a VM for VNs. God bless how far virtualization has come, I can have muh Linux and still enjoy quality VNs with zero crashes.

I have XP on my refurb memepad.
I only use it as a school typing/shitpost machine, so I don't see a reason to do any upgrade

But I'll soon be changing this

To be fair, doctors have too much studying to go through to have time to care about what OS they are using at work. I only get by with being able to rice my ganoo lenox distros because I tend to slack on home studying (within health safety margins, of course)

If you get the laser cutter software package running on it, sure. Until then, XP FTW.
>>
>>53241711

I was using this at work. Had it on an old machine that ran and worked with legacy equipment at a place they crushes concrete to make recycled stone. No on working there knows anything about computers and I go there once in awhile to keep everything going.

I went there a month ago and the machine had upgraded itself to windows 10. Everything was working I was surprised as fuck it didnt all crash.

Still using XP on my toaster oven. I have Slackware installed on my laptop though.

Don't fall for the "XP isn't secure" meme yet. Any major vulnerabilities have been patched for now, and anyone should have the common sense not to enable services such as "Remote Registry" in the first place.

Fuck all y'all.

I have XP installed on an obsolete netbook that is one of around 10 machines I own.

It would be the last machine I would use if given the choice.

The kids use it for YouTube.

XP runs great on it.

Now fuck off.
>>
I used it since release up until about 3 months ago. Switched to Windows 7, and it was the best upgrade feel in my life.
