Laggy but everything works

Can anyone recomend a more lightweight web browser than firefox that's just as functional?

Midori works fine on my fedora install so it might be an issue with ubuntu.

Cpu is a d2500.

QupZilla actually does donwload images and such, it just gets confused and doesnt think it is. Cancelling the download leaves the whole file on your system. Not elegant, but it works.

d2500 is a joke CPU, Intel released it just to see how many suckers would buy it.

The shittiest chinese phone runs in circles around it.

>>53234932
Chromium. Yes it uses up a ton of ram, but as less ram becomes available it scales down its usage and balances between resource cost and performance. I think that's really neat.

Just stop trying to run your browser on a toaster

Didnt think of checking that.
Will have a look at home.
It's a silly issue though.

$18 d2500 ecs board with a pcie x16 slot was a pretty good deal for a study machine. Especially since I'm australian.

>>53237144
I have 4gb ram which is plenty for me.
Would it handle 4 or 5 tabs at the same time smoothly? Midori does. Qupzilla is fine till 4 which isn't bad either.
Firefox can barely handle 2.

>>53237165
GEE OH WHY DIDENT OI THINK OF THAT EY
>>
>>53237233
Midori's webkit anyway, ain't it? Chromium should have no issues with 5 tabs. I suggest you just give it a try tho, it's FOSS anyway, so you really have nothing to lose apart from a few minutes to install it.

Oh, just careful on prolonged use if you run Debian, their version is so outdated it ain't even funny.

Chromium shares a small amount of information with Google, such as your IP and encrypted metadeta about your browsing habits (this is what I've gathered for a few searches on the matter) so if you aren't comfortable with that go with something else but objectively it's probably not worth worrying about.
>>
>>53244385
I don't really care since I'll be using it for 4chan and studying. Thanks though. Im fine as long as they don't get inside my computer.

No browser is perfect. That's what I've learned.

>Nothing is as fast and just werks as Chrome
>Nothing is as stable and customizable as Firefox

I want a Firefox/Chrome hybrid.

Actually, what I REALLY want is a fast browser with tree style tabs and customizable mouse gestures.

Try developer preview FIrefox with the multithread tabs, it might help.

"MInimalist" browsers like midori are useless, else more people would be using them, and they don't save that much RAM to make them viable alternative. The CPU consumption comes from sites/layout engine itself, so these also browsers won't save you, because they still use webkit or whatever.

Which is part of the browser. A non-shit layout engine like netsurf's uses fuckall resources (and also, while mainstream browser CPU usage actually matters on laptops as they'll outright stall after about 20 tabs open, it's memory that's usually the issue, with browsers taking up 2GB base and 8GB extra for plugins).

Browsers that use webkit or blink are a lost cause anyway, as you say, and anyone who falls for such a browser serves whatever price they end up paying for it.
