Aye boi keep it up.
Most of my drives are spun down anyways most of the time, besides my Current C drive and the other 250 with SATA/150, the former boot drive.

Is there an equivalent for linux?

Im running ubuntu and fedora.

I have a WD from 1995 that still works. (at least it did before i tossed the last computer i had that had IDE headers) that was a couple years ago. Even had a copy of puppy linux on it!
>>
>>53131987
but how often was it used

Dont know. Not even too sure how i got a hold of it. But yet its here and works as far as im aware
>>
>>53131975
Thankfully I managed to get 170gb of data off of it before it quit on me for good, and at about 1mb/s transfer rate as well. Gonna send it back tomorrow probably, I've got until March 12th to do that.
>>
>>53131953
Sometimes things are dead on arrival. That drive probably was even though it took a week to fully die.
Shit happens, you got unlucky as fuck.
>>
>>53132187
I'm almost certain it was because it had incredibly slow transfer rates the entire time I was using it >>53132013
I think I'll buy another one as soon as I get my money back and try again.

How fucking stupid can you be?
You can't complain if you get shit technology because of this.
>>
>>53131254
That isn't very long and it isn't a very high power on count either. Most people will spin it up more in a single year. It would be kind of embarrassing if it didn't last that long. All of my drives, both WD and Seagate, have made it at least 5+ years and have never experienced a natural failure, only unnatural due to physical damage. And this is with daily usage for long periods of time.

You should still back things up though because hardware failure is a real thing and it doesn't always have to be your fault. That goes for all components and all timeframes of ownership. I still prefer WD blacks as non-backup drives but they're pretty expensive. Probably not necessary if you don't need a lot of sequential read/write combined with a lot of space.
