This is just about the perfect font for anything that isn't word processing

Why are you using anything else?
>>
Inconsolata is far better fám
>>
because Source Sans Pro, Source Serif Pro, and Source Code Pro are all better for their specific applications (and in general, but I'd only make this point to a retarded zealot who thinks Consolas is the end-all-be-all of fonts).

Your taste might differ. Thinking a single font is optimal for all uses makes you retarded, which has nothing to do with good or bad taste.

You might think I have bad taste, but confusing that for intelligence is maybe as dumb as the OP's error.

tell me it's your favorite and i'll respectfully recommend you give other fonts a shot, but call it perfect and we'll insist you trip so we can disregard the rest of the shit you post without having to read the whole thing.

menlo, and possibly fira mono are better.

source code pro is great for presenting code, but looks horrible in a mac os x terminal window.

Wow that's some quality autism right there.

Nigger, we're discussing the use of a paid font, which you either need to buy or pirate *to use*. Do you follow the conversation now?
>>
>>52989204
Everything here is discretionary. You could use whatever the operating system offered and get by. You don't have to do anything. If you want the font, you can pirate it or you can pay for it.

I don't *have to* pirate my fonts. I just want this font and I don't want to pay for it. If I didn't want it badly enough, I wouldn't pirate it.

Do you not appreciate the difference between wanting something and having to do something? Does it amuse you to call other people autistic when the truth is you don't understand subtle cues like this?

What's with these threads on UI preferences on a technology board?

>>
>>52989233
lolwat, are you kidding?
Even the most expensive typefaces on Earth can be found for free on the internet. I "pirate" all of my typefaces to test them out before paying for a license, it would be irresponsible to assume that waterfall previews on font websites are enough to convince a business to spend a few hundred on a typeface, if you think people in the industry buy a typeface before analyzing it properly you're sadly mistaken.

How is this a thread on technology?

I don't see anyone discussing vectors or how fonts are made. It's just a discussion on aesthetics.

Usability is not aesthetics. There are a number of characters that can look similar but have dramatic affects on code. This is really the only thing I care about when finding a font. Take a peek:
1lI|
0O
5S
ij

that first line is one, lowercase L, capital i, and pipe. 100% fucking useless font. Here's a screenshot in case you font differs.

Inconsolata for terminal, Dejavu sans for everything else.

Source Code Pro all the way. I used Consolas (and Inconsolata) for a while but the fuckhuge parentheses that hung way below the line annoyed me. And I didn't like how all the punctuation in Bitstream Vera-based ones, DejaVu, Menlo, etc. was very squared off. But hey, any of them are perfectly usable programming fonts.
