I'm going to use it to work with Premier Pro, Lightroom and Photoshop and I'm beginning to learn web development.

I'll also be playing games on it, my budget would ideally be keeping the setup under £800. I won't be buying Windows and instead using Dax installer. I also have another 144hz monitor that I wish to buy but haven't chosen yet.

Be brutally honest, is this the worst build you've ever seen?

NVIDIA was retarded and advertised their cards with 4gb gddr5 vram. It only has 3.5 go gddr5 and .5 something else that's slow. Looking at what you're using the pc for though, you're gonna want the CUDA cores NVIDIA provides or else I'd recommend an r9 390

>>52987781
you're not. they cut out a ROP, which means the last eighth of ram is addressed much slower than the rest. it doesn't matter except in the edge cases where you need that last 500mb, which don't come up too often, but are still there.
>>
>>52987825
I find it easier to describe the 4.0 = 3.5 meme in that they made a 3.5Gb DDR5 card, and gave it a 0.5Gb DDR5 cache.

They're cunts for how they marketed it though.

I have a 60hz monitor already, pretty shitty one and I'm going to buy a new one, do I need 144hz? Or will it be okay to simply max out at 60fps

It's decent. I'd definitely go with asus for wifi, though.
The 970 has a bottleneck at 3.51 gigs of vram, because it has one 512 MB chunk that's fucked up.
>>
>>52987911
There's a known issue with the 3TB ones (and certain other models). He selected the 3TB Seagate.
>>
>>52987941
What will you be using it for?
Also, I think your Mobo is a little expensive.
>>
>>52987192
Get a 390 and a 4TB drive. Seagate's 3TB stuff has a history of failing a ton. Also, for fucking $1400, get a good mechanical keyboard.

Have you ever seen 144hz?
If you have and it amazed you, then get it. If you haven't, you should before buying a 144hz monitor.
I agree with your barracuda etc, because i've had luck with mine. Also, here's the 'updated' parlist.
I don't know if you really want the 6600k or not, but going with the 4690k saves money.

Thanks for the advice, I was going for the 6600k because it is only 10 dollars more expensive than the 4690k but what do you think about what this anon said: >>52988005

Benchmarks online show the Xeon to outperform the 6600k but I'm really not sure on that expensive graphics card.

I've never seen 144hz, perhaps I should just buy my build now then decide on the second monitor.
>>
>>52988063
Not worth going for a Xeon unless you're getting an 8+ core one.
>>
>>52988073
Yeah. Xeon's have worse performance per core, so getting a 4 core one is actually worse for more money.
>>52988063
If you want the 6600k, it's no big deal, but you're also paying for the motherboard and ram.
>>52988005
I totally disagree. He/she doesn't need to buy stuff that's twice as expensive if they're just working with photoshop and lightroom. If they were professionally animating a movie? Fuck yeah. But not here.
>>
>>52988073
Should I just get a cheap motherboard, cheap ram and spend the most on the cpu and gpu?

I don't know, it's up to you.
But i'll say this: The motherboard doesn't affect performance at all. It just adds features. If you need usb type c or will need it in the forseeable future, probably go with the 6600k etc.
>>
>>52988102
If you aren't overclocking it really doesn't matter. Don't go too cheap on the motherboard, companies like ECS are cheap but you get what you pay for. I can't count the number of ECS boards I've had die on me.
>>
>>52988102
And get a hyper 212 evo.
If you go cheap on the Mobo, go with asus, gigabyte, msi or evga. Nobody else.

Can't tell if I'm making a huge mistake by not getting the 6600k, don't mean to sound like a fag but the main issue with all these parts is the fucking motherboard, I simply don't know which one to get, at the same time I've never had a pc that's this strong so I'm probably going to find myself being annoyed I spent so much but at the same time I don't want to have to switch parts in the future

Should I rest on it for a month?
>>
>>52988280
Well, I originally recommended the 4690k, but you should go ahead and get the 6600k. More future proofing. I was thinking you were trying to keep the price down, and that's a common way to do so.
A good way to decide is to filter on pcpartpicker for the features you need, sort by lowest price and then look up the specs on newegg.

Usb 3.0 is a faster usb standard, it increases max throughput for things like flash drives, external hard drives, etc.
DVI is a display connector, and probably won't be used on new devices. It's pretty versatile, though.
HDMI is the most common tv display connector.
Ethernet is wired internet, it looks like a phone jack. and a ps2 port is for old mice and keyboards, and some expensive gaming stuff.
I can't sleep, so I'm free to answer questions.

$600 usd?
Also, the G3258 performs nearly identically to the 4790k when gaming, and if you're not a heavy user of cpu intensive tasks, i'd go for it.
Additionally, don't buy a 950. It's 960 or up, because the 950 is a silly budget card that barely performs. Other than that, it's pretty good.
>>
>>52988641
Here, this is better in my opinion, but i'm not 100% sure what you'll be using it for. If you'll be playing planetside or something, get the 4 core chip. Plus, you can upgrade later.

>Also, the G3258 performs nearly identically to the 4790k when gaming, and if you're not a heavy user of cpu intensive tasks, i'd go for it.

Depending on the game you play. In bioshock infinite, the g series and the i7 perform within a few fps of each other when they're both overclocked. You could also get an old xeon off of ebay for like $60, and they have 8 cores.
You'd have to use ddr2, though.
>>
>>52987982

>>52988838

Eh I'll probably be playing League and CS:GO mostly. I'm sure it'll run well, I just don't want it to slow down while multi-tasking.
>>
>>52988796
Bottlenecking occurs when one part is much 'stronger' than the others.
This most often occurs between the cpu, gpu and hdd.
If you have a 980TI and a G3258, you won't be getting the full potential of the 980ti.

RAM doesn't often bottleneck anything. Plus, I have 16GB of ram and even when editing in after effects I only use about 8 gigs, and that's if I do it intentionally. You should be fine. If you want to buy a 390, that would be a decent investment.
Again, though, only get that CPU if you won't be playing games that are cpu intensive. It's a dual core, and at 3.2ghz, it's no i5.
>>
>>52988870
Well, just to be safe, the i3-4370 is a dual core hyperthreaded cpu, and a bit newer, so it should offer some added benefits. I don't know how the g series compares when overclocked, though.
League and CS:GO aren't very cpu intensive.

>>
>>52988976
Add an aftermarker cooler, such as the hyper 212 evo. Also, these i3s aren't overclockable, at least not a lot. The k on the end of the new series means the multiplier is unlocked.

>>

what's with all the random SSDs?
>>
>>52989606
First impressions
The mobo is a bit expensive, unless you really prefer a few additional ports, 16gb isn't entirely necessary, random ssds are random, love the GPU, the case is too expensive.
More ssds in raid 0 = higher performance, higher price
single ssd = less performance, lower price
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KjcNRB
Put those ssds in raid 0 and you'll cap your onboard raid card (exaggeration, still though)
Overall better price/performance in my opinion. You could also just get 1 512 gb SSD and call it a day. You don't need storage that fast for video editing, but it would help.

On the other hand, the affect the GPU has on your adobe work is minimal compared to the impact the gpu has for vidya. That would urge me to urge you to consider an r9 390 instead as many have mentioned.

Have been thinking seriously that I should change 980 to 980ti. Also what I've been reading the new polaris and pascal cards are coming somewhat soon, could this lower the prices for something like 980 or 980ti in near future?

750W might also be a little too much but there might be a chance for me to upgrade to 4 hdd drives in raid 10. Also monitor and windows are basically placeholders.
>>
>>52990404
>http://pcpartpicker.com/p/C6cC3C
2x4 gigs is a weird setup for ram
Personally, i think the mobo is too expensive, but it's personal prefrence, as it doesn't effect performance.
I'd go with a less budget ssd - http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam for example.
The 980 should be good for 1080p 60hz, I have the 980 for 2560x1080 75hz and it works well, and that's with massive cpu bottlenecking from my PoS amd cpu.
>>
>>52990404
Also, the higher the wattage, the longer the psu lasts at the same draw, at least in theory.

Theoretically, a 1200 watt psu that constantly draws 400 watts would last longer than a 410 watt psu that constantly draws 400 watts.
Plus, futureproofing, etc.
>>
