This is a legit question I have for the FOSS community: how is a single developer supposed to make money in the GNU/Utopia?
Today anybody can release an app on some app store, and earn enough to not be homeless, but if everything is free and open, what do they do then?
What I heard so far points to developers getting contracts to support software they write, but that is really only applicable to services.
There's also the possibility of code being available, but software still being sold and distribution of the source not being allowed - but doesn't that still go against FSF philosophy?
