Sane permissions system. iOS almost gets this right, unusually for them.
A package manager. Literally any will do at this point, but zypper is really good and easily portable. Pkgin will be fine, too.
Ship the phones with vanilla upstream version with minimal to no changes.
Basically make Sailfish with better permissions, maybe based on SELinux or something.

I would suggest adding root and bootloader unlock by default but that would mean even more retards breaking their phones by doing dumb shit and iOS shills going crazy with the statistics. "Allow 3rd party apps" option is bad enough.

Android has no hope. I'm interested in Linux on Android projects, but most of them have a lot of hardware incompatibilities, and there is no good touch-based X11 window manager.
I just want the option to buy a phone with just a base install of Android on it and no bloat from the service provider, and the ability to manage startup apps and a fucking close or exit button for apps that actually closes the app. Also a native cpu frequency manager would be nice (alot of these apps just don't work and SetCPU barely works)
