Best studio monitors under $500?
>/g/
>knowing shit about audio
lol
>>52699903
You do not own a studio, stop being a stupid cunt and run some good quality car audio 6.5" splits in your own MDF box.
Enjoy 99% the same SQ with the same or more volume for $200 or less.
Don't take anyone's opinion on this... Go to your local music store if you live in a big city. They will have a room full of monitors. You can give them a CD with familiar tunes and listen to all of them.
You have to try before you buy with speakers. At least buy used as a starting set
>>52699903
>Buying monitors without having a treated room.
There is literally no point.
this
>>52700689
oh, I mean this 308 not 305
>>52699903
For the pair or per monitor?
>>52700699
>Recommending 8" speakers regardless of roomsize.
Don't fall for the troll, OP.

Can this meme die already?
LSR305 with LSR310s sub.

pair
Ascend, I think, makes the best speakers under 300. Everybody doing comparisons with them and they always come out on top for resolution and detail. Just add a woofer since you will need a subwoofer anyway. The Arx is also good at 300$ per pair.

Lol because they own a car?
>>52699969
This is the best advice.
Went to BestBuy yesterday and listened to all of the speakers there using that interface widget. Played Bob Dylan acoustic songs which should have been "easy" but all the speakers sounded raspy and boxy.
Even the JBLs I couldn't believe it.
>>52699950
>being this poor
buy some $30 monitors, you won't know the difference, and spend the rest of the money on some subs.
>>52701477
>raspy and boxy
Cool placebophile buzzwords.
>>52701520
raspy: instead of a smooth sounding voice, singer sounds like he has a sore throat
boxy: instead of the singer sounding like he's in a large open space, the speaker makes it sound as if the singer is singing out of a toilet stall
all shit speakers have these key features; the raspy feature is due to a low quality woofer; the boxy quality is due to poor tuning of the cabinet, poor phase control of the drivers, or just shitty drivers
pic related: two pieces of shit
M-Audio M3-8
8 inch woofer
>>52701623
Prove that it's better than any of the other speakers posted in this thread.
>>52701738
3 (THREE) elements
Why is everyone only caring about woofer size and cabinet space size? These are two specs that mean almost nothing independently. You can go to almost any thrift store and buy 15-inch woofers and put them into a massive box, it doesn't mean its going to sound good.
Get a pair of Chane A1rx-c for $300. They have a ribbon tweeter which is usually only found in very high end audio setups so people will think you spent thousands on it. I don't know or care how they sound. Just tell people you dropped $2000 on them and they'll start thinking it sounds real good.
>>52701796
What's the matter? You get uncomfortable when the woofers are bigger than your dick?
10-inch 3-way master race here
>>52701738
i didnt say it was better
im only offering it as a suggestion
anyway, it was approved by cat
>>52701796
Because bigger = better.
It's not at all dependent on room size, or quality. What do you think this is? /mu/?
>>52701623
The FRC is okay.
>>52701853
>>52701876
>Because bigger = better
Sound quality wise, no. A 4'' woofer can sound just as good as a 15'' woofer. Unless you live in a nightclub or stadium, a 4'' woofer is going to be plenty loud above 60-80hz. In a home environment, you're much better off just getting a subwoofer than full range speakers.
>>52701963
>b-bu m-my 4" dick is still fine
No it's not. Get over it
>>52701963
>small size, but BIG sound
I bet you enjoy Logitech speakers you stupid cunt
>>52701963
What? Don't you want to hear that 50Hz low end in STEREO? :^)
>>52702030
The cabinet size has to be of sufficient size. I'm just commenting on the people ITT implying that the bigger the size, the better. Not true, it has to be tuned. You can't just build a bigger, huger box for a speaker and think its going to automatically sound better. And vice versa a lot of consumer speakers are designed to save space but are too small to sound good.
Take for example this guy >>52699950. Unless you're an audio engineer and know the math that goes into speaker cabinet design, and at the same time also a carpenter than can construct a high quality boxes, you're going to get terrible results no matter how big your box is.
>>52702040
What does stereo have to do this? And 50hz is easily possible for 4-6'' woofers if they are good quality with high excursion. Thing is, you're much better off getting a nice 12-15'' subwoofer to play below 60-80hz, and above that 4'' woofers are more than capable. Its about design and build quality, whether your woofers are 4'' or 8'' means very little 80+hz. Same with tweeters, no one cares about the physical surface area of their tweeter, because the size is usually already sufficient.
>>52699903
I have those very same yamahas, use a proper audio interface and you're set
>>52702220
>50Hz low end in STEREO?
>Because bigger = better
>8" speakers regardless of roomsize.
If you don't understand why these statements are genuine trolling, you don't have any comprehension of how audio works and are just as clueless as OP,
Can't say much but I really like my pioneer scn301lr
>>52702533
>pioneer scn301lr
amazingly non-shitty product from Pioneer
probably the top of their offerings, and on par with better British brands
>>52702220
yep, there's a lot of shitty speakers out there with the cabinet not properly tuned to the drivers -- usually the garbage sold by non-magnolia BestBuy
the material used for the cabinet, and the stuffing, also produces weird resonances when done poorly
and people seldom assess the midrange driver/s -- the amount of displacement of the solenoid and the flexibility of the surround and the resilience of the cone material -- all these things affect the output fidelity
>>52702309
not clear what you're trying to say

focal alpha 50
>>52701848
Ruban means nothing
>100€ Philips
Maudio BX5 is great for the price, but mine crapped out after about 5 years. Not terrible, but frustrating. I was gonna get a pair of Focal Alpha 50s to replace them, but they seemed even less reliable. Ended up going for the Yamaha HS8, and I'm reasonably happy with them. I don't think they're as flat as the HS5 or even the BX5, but I'm not really producing anymore, so it's nice for general non-critical listening.
Best speakers ever.
spendor bc1
genelec 1029
no other choice, don't buy new for that money unless you are the air to the throne of the king of morons.

yes
>>52707123
Of course if You listen music from your shitty plastic Creative speakers all the time you don't even know how the real studio speakers looks like.
>>52707179
>bad place
yeah it's a funny way to build a 3-way system but the result is pretty amazing, especially considering the age of the design
>>52707179
thanks for that, not seen it before, very interesting.
I use bc1 and Naumann 0300d and gen 8050.
spenders are my favourite though, and i know they aren't the best, but they are the best.
I don't see the point in studio monitors unless you're making music.
I'd rather get speakers that sound the way I like them, and that's what I personally did.
>>52708120
>>52708120
Oh god m8, that's the point, you need reference transducers or you don't, simple.
You make music or you don't.
Peace.
>>52708202
>reference transducers
>under $500
it's just some active speakers saying "studio monitor" on the box, why exclude them from the possibilities because of that
>>52708272
fair point, that's why you buy secondhand, some good monitors out there if you know what you're looking for. but yeah.
