I just bought pic related a few days ago and holy fuck it feels so good to finally have a grown up phone again.

No more fat fingering soft keys while smudging up my screen, no more meme devices that only differentiate themselves with thumbprint readers, 3d touch, and other garbage "features", and no more having to root and sideload neckbeard roms just to get rid of touch wiz.

This is the return of physical keyboards. It's about fucking time!
>>

What was the last smartphone that had a physical keyboard after the Droid phones? Besides phones that were exclusive to Japan, I can't think of any. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just haven't seen nearly as many physical keyboards on flagship devices in recent memory.

The Droid phones were so good, I loved my original Droid, but they stopped making them, then Google hollowed out Motorola. I think you'd like the priv if you liked the Droid. The physical keyboard doubles as a touch surface for gestures (swipe left erases word, down for alt symbols, double tap to enter cursor mode and drag in any direction to place cursor, etc) it also runs android now so no more app gap.

Does anyone know if this phone is selling well compared to RIM's other BlackBerry handsets? I'd love to see RIM getting back on their feet again. Modern cellphones have become extremely bland in the past decade. Everything wants to be the next best knock-off iPhone, even though the new iPhones are uninspired pieces of utter shit.

their last earnings report only covered the first couple weeks of priv sales but they just announced the total number of devices sold. that total number was very low but John Chen has been making very optimistic statements lately on the priv sales. he also talked about a second android phone and speculated that if enough android bb phones were sold, they could make a new BB10 device.

he is just trying to rev up hype among bb purists who don't want to buy the priv and stay with the passport. he tries to imply that "you want BB10? here android, fuck you; first buy this one to get a new BB10"
>>
>>52688307
I won't be buying Chen's overprice android, I am a fan on BB10 not BlackBerry. Still it's kinda fucked up how they threw their hardcore fans under the bus like that just to become another Google OEM.
>>
>>52688365
Well to be fair to Chang, he kind of had to make the switch. BB10 wasn't going anywhere, and Investors/main consumers were begging for an Android BB.

Kind of unfortunate that a lot of smaller OSs aren't realizing they really need to stop fragmenting themselves and just stick behind one.

>>52688625
It's called BB10 because they couldn't use BBX with the X being from QNX, it has nothing to do with the BBOS series which was built using Java. Calling it BBOS 10 is wrong, and you really shouldn't be so proud to sound like a fucking idiot on a Mongolian tapestry board.

>>
>>52688643
Fast forward to Today, Good was bought by BB and Samsung and BB are "partners". Chen's market game is strong too, seeing as no one has called him out on it.
>>
>>52683185
Form factor. Easier to decrease size when the battery is integrated with and around the hardware. If this truely has to be the case is another factor as there are some pretty thin, stand-alone batteries.
>>
>>52683117
Only problem is Google service framework doesn't work with blackberry so no snapchat.
>>
>>52683185
If you keep the battery in the same space as the other components, that lets you get rid of the plastic you would normally use to separate them. Makes the phone thinner.
>>
>>52688770
Exactly, Chen knows what he's doing, he is a turn around expert after all. Unfortunately that means BB will end up like all his other turnarounds, i.e. sold to the highest bidder once profitable again.
>>
>>52688765
Neither is pointing out I deleted my first post a valid counter argument.
>>
>>52689005

Small one: the bloody calculator is upside-down from the buttons you need to press on the keyboard.
Big one: there is no cursor, despite cursors being a superior method of interacting with media.
>>
>>52689280
There are countless groups that could band together and actually work on BB10 to fix it up, while BB maintains """""security""""" rights. Unfortunately, won't happen. These same groups have too much pride in their own OS.

So many little things too, like the inability to swipe from your hub to the home screen/apps screens through the physical keyboard, even though you can swipe through the rest of your screens with it just fine. Things like not being able to opt for more detailed volume controls upon pressing them.

The whole amazon situation is also a mess, there's no reason for it to be a completely separate app, one that runs shit might I add.
>>
>>52689635
>The whole amazon situation is also a mess, there's no reason for it to be a completely separate app, one that runs shit might I add.
Honestly when I heard that Chen struck a deal with Amazon I was expect a much tighter integration with BB10, especially since Amazon already had some experience in the mobile from Fire Phone. Sadly, all it did was give us a port of their app store and put the final nail in BB10 native development.
>>
Wow. Blackberry shills like crazy on my fb feed but in the Chan? They must be really grasping at straws!
>>
>>52689808
BB10 users got slapped in the face, TWICE.
1. Amazon AppStore is completely separate, at least a fucking webpage on the BB World app would have been a step up.
2. The Amazon web marketplace is also a separate app, mandatory.

Seriously, the partnership between amazon and blackberry must have been made by two retarded interns at both companies.

apple won't fall that fast, but they indeed reached their saturation point and will face some downfall. Speculators gonna speculate about apple's downfall all day errday. blackberry can sell a phone or two and reach a sustainable point in terms of hardware while microsoft continues to release lumia shit.

things won't change for microsoft unless they make the surface phone which might be a huge unexpected success.

Japanese, import only, can be sim-unlocked. Called the SH-06G. You'll want to check the bands it supports, since (in the U.S., at least) 4G only works with AT&T. Doesn't have the google play store, but apps can be manually installed by hooking it to your computer.

No thanks. Not even the person you replied to, but I'm on Sprint, which also has a soft cap, but it's based by tower. After 21gb you'd be flat throttled for the month. After 23gb I'm throttled ONLY if there's low usage customers on my tower currently using data, and every 5ms it prioritizes. Been tethering and using upwards of 300GB/month without ever being throttled.

At least it doesn't use Google services framework, so that's one less hole. The priv is about as secure as the kindle fire Android fork which hasn't had many issues (in fact, the security is so good that you literally have to nuke a whole partition to get it to panic and allow you fastboot access as a repair method, then you can actually flash a new bootloader and flash new ROMs and root it)
