Reposting from other thread, got in just on the end of it.

I'm looknig for a name of an application, it was big on /b/ in like 2007, it was an image scrambler that could scramble parts of an image, but then could be undone by others in the same program, does anyone know what this was called or similar programs?

Need a cloud backup solution. Requirements:
* About 3TB of space
* User-friendly clients for Windows, OSX, and Android
* Linux client (doesn't need to be user friendly)
* Automated and incremental (I don't really need revision support but that would be neat I suppose)
* Client allows easy rate limiting of the upload
* Preferably supports encryption and doesn't store the key server-side; I.E restores should only be possible if I can provide a keyfile
* Hopefully reasonably cheap

Shill me, /g/! Referral links are fine if the service meets the above requirements.

The easiest would probably be to setup owncloud.
It can run on almost anything, a VPS or something you own in your house with dynamic dns.
Use letsencrypt to get a certificate and you can just download the desktop client and log in.
The default encryption is server side but you can get your own solution if you want.

If this is too much, syncthing is a bit easier although it is not good for mobile.

I had an extension which added its icon to the menu bar, and I then removed it, but now I want it back, and it doesn't appear in the customization menu. Removing and reinstalling the addon doesn't make it appear, so it must be stored somewhere I don't want it, but I couldn't obviously see it in ~/.mozilla.

The best way is to get something from the trash heap with a USB port, see if it still boots, wipe the HDD, and start from there. To do that, jewgle is your friend (for now).Hell, most people in IT/sysadmin just google it half the time, anyway. For Linux, try dickin around with Mint first. Tear it apart and if you fuck it up too bad, the worst that can happen is you've lost something you got for nothing.

Okay so I'm building a gaming rig(I've built only one before myself) for my friend and I'm saving money by just letting him use my old HD but I have a few questions on the install

Do I need to completely whipe it using the og pc first?

I don't have the disk but I have my product key so can I install win from a external HD via MircoUSB or does it have to boot from a dvd drive/USB stick?

What will happen if I just rip it out and plug it in and see what happens? I'm fairly certain it won't work but I'm curious.

If we follow a Cartesian coordinate system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system), negative values in the X axis represent points at the left of the origin of coordinates (0,0), while negative values in the Y axis represent points under the origin of coordinates.

>Do I need to completely whipe it using the og pc first?
All you have to do is insert the HDD and boot the installation disk. The setup can reformat the drive for you.
>I don't have the disk but I have my product key
Download a 64-bit Home Premium disk image. If Microsoft hasn't gone full retard about wanting you to switch to Windows 10 yet, you should still be able to get it from their website.
>What will happen if I just rip it out and plug it in and see what happens? I'm fairly certain it won't work but I'm curious.
Windows installations handle new hardware not very gracefully. If you simply replace the HDD, Windows will probably boot and install a bunch of new drivers and more or less work. However, expect freezes and bluescreens down the line.

Hi folks, do you know what could be causing a bad_alloc error in this snippet?

std::vector<Tripleta> mergesort(std::vector<Tripleta> vec) {
float n = vec.size();
std::vector<Tripleta> res;
if (n == 1)
res = vec;
else {
std::vector<Tripleta> izq (vec.begin(), vec.begin()+floor(n/2)-1);
std::vector<Tripleta> der (vec.begin()+floor(n/2), vec.end()-1);
izq = mergesort(izq);
der = mergesort(der);
res = merge(izq,der);
}
return res;
}

the struct Tripleta just holds a float and 2 ints, in case you care

wrote a standalone program so you can compile and try to work out what's wrong

#include <vector>
#include <cmath>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
#include <iostream>

struct Tripleta
{
float valor;
int fil, col;
};

using namespace std;

vector<Tripleta> merge(vector<Tripleta> izq, vector<Tripleta> der) {
vector<Tripleta> res;
int i=0;
int j=0;
while(i < izq.size() && j < der.size()) {
if (izq[i].valor > der[j].valor) {
res.push_back(izq[i]);
i++;
}
else {
res.push_back(der[j]);
j++;
}

}
if (i == izq.size()) {
while (j < der.size()) {
res.push_back(der[j]);
j++;
}
}
else {
while (i < izq.size()) {
res.push_back(izq[i]);
i++;
}
}
}

vector<Tripleta> mergesort(vector<Tripleta> vec) {
float n = vec.size();
vector<Tripleta> res;
if (n == 1)
res = vec;
else {
vector<Tripleta> izq (vec.begin(), vec.begin()+floor(n/2)-1);
vector<Tripleta> der (vec.begin()+floor(n/2), vec.end()-1);
izq = mergesort(izq);
der = mergesort(der);
res = merge(izq,der);
}
return res;
}

int main() {
vector<Tripleta> vec(20);
srand(time(0));
for (int i = 0 ; i < vec.size() ; i++) {
vec[i].valor = rand()%100;
cout << vec[i].valor << " ";
}
cout << "\n";
vec = mergesort(vec);
for (int i = 0 ; i < vec.size() ; i++) {
cout << vec[i].valor << " ";
}
}

this throws a bad_alloc on mergesort(), it never gets to call merge()

What's the next big step in the CPU world?

I had this idea for a simple torrent server which, through i2p, simply goes through and downloads random torrents from various sites and simply seeds it until a certain ratio is reached, like 2.0.

Some problems would arise with the queue. Some torrents are easier to share than others, and if you have a queue full of torrents nobody wants to download shit will simply stall.

How would I go about this?
>>
Case:
>Dell Latitude D830, Core2Duo, x86
>Windows XP Home
>used only for browsing, e-mail, shops / auctions, etc
>it also has printer, some Brother installed to it
>it used Kaspersky AV at some point, but it got expired
>it's not actually that mobile, making it more stationary.

- This is the current machine my parents are using and they are actually fine with it as they spend on it <5 hour weekly.
- They asked me if I could manage with extending license for it (they are able to pay, as they are satisfied with it).
- My concern is that AV might not be enough if OS itself is not updated with security updates (patch tuesday).

WAT DO?

- Uprage OS. I see that Windows 7 has support until 2020. What stores could I look for in order to obtain keys?
- Alternative: Buy some old laptop with OEM license? Besides /g/'s beloved thinkpads, what other models would You recommend?
- 2nd alternative: Rather than laptop, purchase some small PC form factor (IPX ?) What motherboard would You recommend. Integrated graphics and wireless card would be handy.

I'm actually prone to last alternative. Since it is stationary, it would be better to obtain normal machine.
>>
>>52493195
>if you have a queue full of torrents nobody wants to download shit will simply stall.
Did you also consider what if you have a queue full of torrents no one has to seed?
Both should be easily solvable by checking the amount of seeders and leechers a torrent has
>>
>>52493239
Ideally this should be monitored such that torrents which nobody wants to download gets seeded iff there are leechers there.

As for torrents that doesn't need to be seeded (because it's already healthy) I suppose they should only be downloaded if their health deteriorates or something.

anyone else having trouble with youtube not playing all of the sudden? Running Arch Linux with Xfce for what it's worth.

Videos will not play for some reason, they just freeze on the first frame in both Firecucks and Botnetium

Tried disabling uBlock: Origin thinking that might be fucking it up, but no luck.

Weird thing is it actually loads the video, and I can jump around in the video to different frames if they're loaded but it just stays on that frame, play button will switch from Play to Pause but will never actually play the video.

They will play in mpv of course so there's a workaround but it's a bit annoying to have to play everything in that instead of just viewing in browser.

Easiest thing for a home network is to just use a decent router which will act as the gateway as well as switch unless you need more ports in which case you can just add in an additional switch connected to the router.

Having a dedicated gateway server is overkill for home networks unless you just want to set one up to dick around with it and learn.

And yes, the gateway server can handle other tasks, depending on the hardware and what you want to do with it.

thank you based /g/ods for this thread. I have a stupid problem.

I cloned my hard drive a while back (over a year) when i put an SSD into my laptop. Clone appeared to work, I swapped the SSD in and put the HDD in my second bay. made sure OS was booting from the SSD, etc. Performance jumped, seemed like all was going well.

Most times when I start my laptop it does a quick "repairing drive errors" thing while loading windows, but I've never found any evidence of problems in actual use. Funnily enough it seems to have stopped doing that as of roughly a month or two ago but again no difference in actual performance.

I decided to leave the C (now F) partition of my old HDD untouched just in case all hell broke loose with the new one. mostly because I'm not sure how I'd recover windows if I lost my SSD, and desu I'm not sure if something on the old partition is needed to keep my system runnng/authenticated/whatever Of course now it's way out of date and I have no idea what the consequences of using it would be. But that's not the issue, my SSD is still running fine.

However, I finally decided I want to format my F partition on the old HDD that had OS, program files, all the good shit. Went to do it and it said it was currently in use. What the fuck is it being used for. Just as a poor man's test I went to the file location for any running programs and they're all on the SSD, so what exactly is running on the old HDD, is there any issue if i format it?

Thanks in advance. Will monitor in case I've been unclear about anything. The whole preamble was just because I have the sneaking suspicion I did something wrong when i first installed the thing.

USB would be getting the program GParted and putting it on the usb. All it is is a program that formats and makes partitions.So no extra things you need to learn to do it.Just point and click

If it says it is busy something is using it.Safe mode dosent startup but the basics. So most likely you could format it there
>>
>>52497007
then I can only think that the installer is damaged, do this, redownload it but while it's downloading right click in firefox on the download bar, copy the url of the file, then go to burnbit.com and make a torrent of it (hopefully burnbit accepts the url), then download the torrent and sync it (force re-check) with the file you finished downloading, if the file is good then it should tell you 100% complete, otherwise 99% or whatever depending on the damaged part size, if it's damaged then start the torrent and it should correctly replace the damaged part for you. Try installing again.

I always thought keyring drives were a dumbass idea, you either have to take it off the ring to use it or have the weight of your keys pulling down on it all the time you're using it, which will likely lead to early death. instead of putting it on your keyring, run a lanyard through it and wear it around yo neck

16gb is more then enough to put 10 distros live boot on

I don't care about backup because in theory the partition I'm formatting is just a copy of my old C drive circa last year. It had mostly program files to begin with. Everything I need to save is either updated on the SSD, or copied already by me to the other partition of my HDD (manual backup ftw). I no longer care about keeping a copy of my OS because the SSD hasn't completely tanked so whatever.

I just want to format it for the sake of clearing up space (and now because I'm worried its continued existence might be messing with my system since its still running things) and was surprised that any part of it was in use when i tried to do that. I could have ignored the warning and formatted it anyways, but i wondered if maybe for some reason some part of the OS or program files were still being actively used instead of the SSD version, meaning idk what would happen if i just deleted them all. I basically want to know what's running off that partition, why it's running off that one and not the SSD, or if it's just totally safe and not worth worrying about. i don't want to format it only to find that something messed up in the cloning and now my windows is screwed. If that makes sense. Just being cautious.

you would be using it normally, but windows update & other softwares should ask you to update
