Hey /g/, what are some things I can do RIGHT NOW to get into IT/Computer/Programming/SQL etc. jobs? I am tired of working at a restaurant.
You pick something and you study your ass off every day.

I heard a lot of good things about CCNA as far as landing jobs is concerned.
No way, keep flipping burgers.

I'll write that down, thank you.

I live in Maine, so I only work maybe 6 months of out the year. It doesn't pay well at all.

You could start by working towards this:

But again "IT" is a wide brush. Networking isn't for everyone just like programming isn't for everyone.

Bookmarked. Thanks.
I know a bit of programming as well. C and C++. Could I make something now that I can put into my resume?

Work on small projects and make a GitHub and StackOverflow account. Those are great for resumes. Showing something concrete you worked on.
I think networking is a bit more of an "active" lifestyle because you might get woken up in the middle of the night if something fucks up and I don't like that whereas programming the only time pressure might be timelines or something like that.

I have a GitHub, but it includes a Half-Life mod and a mostly bad and incomplete SDL game I made 3 years ago. Should I reboot it and work on better things on a clean slate?
>>52482957
Not sure about that. It's up to you.

Probably, especially if I am supposed to look professional or something. That or add onto it and keep it active.
