I suppose it just depends how important your data is to you. I'm sure the more money it's worth the more drastic steps you take to ensure you have working backups.

the data should be worth the investment in time if you take extra steps to personally ensure the procedure is working
if it's low priority data, then it's not worth spending extra time. Good backup solutions can be trusted enough in 2016 for it.
