>>52438364
how DO you install software on linux?
I can't figure it out.
>>52438424
kek for real? there's a package manager for a reason, use it.
if you're compiling from source instead, read the documentation of the program you want to compile, there's usually a readme file or instructions on the site where you found it, in most cases you just need to use 3 commands:./configure
make
install

>My latest 3.5Gb card is useless
kek Where's Vulkan?
>>52438424
you use your distros package manager
for Debian based
>apt-get install firefox
for Redhat based
>yum/zypper install firefox
for Arch based
>pacman -S firefox

>useful software
I really hate when people do this. I'm a geophysicist. Know what useful software is for me?
http://www.cwp.mines.edu/~john/GPGN461.561/ch1-14.pdf
Also gcc, gfortran, and octave. Which I could get running on cygwin on Windows, but why bother when I can keep windows for just muh gaems and do my actual work on Linux, where I prefer to do pretty much anything except muh gaems.
I love how "useful software" always has to mean Photoshop (admittedly the one big thing that doesn't have a quality replacement on Linux, but 95% of you reading this that do use it, use it to make super dank pepes and not anything actually productive), Office (because fuck LibreOffice), and AutoCAD (because fuck the FOSS alternatives).

>windows problems
>>52438619
I can run all of those in wine. I even run my games in wine.
>>52438619
>AutoCAD (because fuck the FOSS alternatives).
If you need cad for linux there's bricscad.
Ain't free as in beer neither free as in freedom but it's a native linux application
>>52438364
Yeah, ubuntu is the opposite of user friendly
>>52438889
Fuck, this reminded me...
>babbie's furst loonix
>install ubuntu on my laptop when I'm 15
>feeling like an almighty powerful hacker
>sister hears, sees it, asks
>"Cool! Anon, I want that!"
>explain that it's different from Windows and a bad idea for her
>she moans to dad about it, sternly tells me to be nice to my sister
>take her laptop, wipe Windows and install Ubuntu
>tell her she's on basically her own
>five days later
>"Hey Anon why can't I install League?"
>tell her to google Wine and how to install
>"Anon, I tried that Wine thing but I can't figure it out, can you help?"
>told you that you were on your own, I'm kinda busy now
>moans to dad until I'm forced to spend two hours setting up that shitty game
>"Anon the game crashes when I try to buy something in League!"
>fuuuuck I'm already late for the LAN party
>check on WineHQ, tell her it's a problem with no fix
>"WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WON'T WORK?"
>yeah, it just kinda crashes when you want to buy an item, gotta go, bye
>"I WANT WINDOWS BACK!"
>then reinstall it, here, I still have the bootable USB with all the drivers on it alre-
>"NO, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT, THIS IS *YOUR* FAULT, YOU FIX IT!"
>this is not my fault at all, I got to go, not taking an hour to fix your shit, wait until the weekend when I'll be free
>literally cried to dad about it and i ended up having to reinstall windows and then dad barred me from using the car as punishment for being a "bad brother", so I missed my first ever LAN party
>>52437535
You got addware , Run an antivirus scan anon .

>FIX IT ANON
>sudo apt-get upgrade
>doesn't fix it
>install wine
>fuck this shit is a PITA
>too proud to switch her back to Windows
>I can do this
>manage to get the game to run but it's buggy as shit
>hey, at least it runs!
>another job well done
>sister still isn't happy, wants me to reinstall windows
>realize I have no windows installation media
>GODDAMMIT SIS, YOU DEAL WITH IT, YOU ARE THE 'COMPUTER EXPERT' OF THIS FAMILY, RIGHT?
>she complains to dad
>threatens to ground me if I don't reinstall windows
>finally give up the good fight and put windows back on her machine

Confirmed. Just try using git for example
Pic related vs
>git log

>w65we98r "did other shit" xx/yy/zzzz
You have to be fucking delusional to be as anti-gui as most loonix fags are.
>>52439566
The program in your screenshot is way more fluttered and confusing than some text in terminal
>>52439596
cluttered*
>>52437535
>just windows things
>>52439596
It's also 1000% more informative than some lines of text in a terminal with a different, overly long and detailed cmdline being needed to display all the individual bits of information and still not actually showing you shit like a quick branching graph or visual diff. I have to use cmdline git at work atm for a client instead of sourcetree, which is my usual, and it is goddamn awful.
Also, if you think that UI is cluttered you may need to get looked at by a doctor. It's a table in the center, a list of files in the lower left and a diff of the selected file to the right. It isn't fucking dizzying or hard to navigate at all unless you wanna do it on a 640x480 screen.
filthy "redditors" please go away
