Why is the font rendering in Firefox so bad compared to Chrome?

Why is the font rendering in Firefox so bad compared to Chrome? Literally the only reason why I don't switch. It kills the eye.

Old pic, still related.

you're autistic, even for /g/

this is really a windows issue. linux and OS X users don't have this problem. in fact, linux users can get worse font rendering in chrome.

consider using an OS that's good all around instead of one that thrives on being mandatory for launching applications written by its parent company's business partners

OS X is superior to everything, and I wish you could enable the same rendering in Windows. There was an app for it years ago but it's buggy as shit.

What do you expect from freetards

I actually prefer seeing my own webpages on gecko-based browsers on linux, everything looks smoother.

Nothing less and nothing more. If you love free software, you do your part and introduce windows-specific issues into everything.

Even if a windows user buys a mac, that is still a minor win for free software. Apple still contributes to FOSS and does not use aggressive business techniques like OEM/school buyouts to force worldwide baby duck syndrome.

Chromium based browsers have DirectWrite. It's trash compared to GDI++ or Mactype, but even that is better than Windows' Cleartype. Firefox uses system default font rendering, which is shit, but you can't blame it on Firefox. Install Mactype, disable hardware accel in Firefox (open about:config, search gfx.direct2d.disabled and set to "true") and see which rendering profile of Mactype makes it look good for you.

This is Windows' fault, not Firefox's. It just shows what you have.
It's because Chrome ignores whatever your system settings are.

If your system has shit fonts, Chrome will look better.
If your system has good fonts, Chrome will look shit.

Is this the famed "show off your shitty 4chan theme" thread, thinly veiled in font rendering bait?
