It is very much tech related, so I just thought to ask if shit's legit by /g/ standards

His book; What if?; is pretty good, I don't actively read xkcd but Randall is a good writer
>>
>>52386052
>Randall is a good writer

No he fucking isn't.
>>
It used to be pretty good before it turned into look-at-this-nerdy-joke-i-am-smarter-than-you. Randall still makes some good strips once in a while though.

I hate his "what if" things.
the reason being that I've spend a nontrivial part of my life doing such silly approximations (albeit better than him), but he not only publishes them, but presents them in a normie-friendly form, makes them look interesting, and makes money of it.
I know it's kind of sad/meaningless to hate him, especially given that I neither can nor want to draw comics (90% of his work is presentation) but I certainly do hate him.

I've followed him for years and still do. I even have an upgoer five poster hanging next to me.

I might agree with the critics that his golden ones are almost all several years old, but I think his current comics are still good.

>i hate him because he's more successful in what i also do
You're salty, so so salty

>>
>>52386334
this is pretty much it. it's probably one of the few bearable webcomics out there, he's a little up his own arse, but that comes with the trade.
>>
>>52386464
This is one of his popular comics that I cannot relate at all.
I don't know what kind of stupid fuck thinks he's the only sentient thing in the room.

is this post intentionally ironic? I can't tell
>>
>>52386731
it's neither intentionally nor inintentionally ironic.
the comic implies that the average person thinks the rest of the people don't act for their best interest withing the limits of their capabilities and environment.
That is simply not true, especially not true for the majority of the population.

My post would be ironic if I claimed to be unique in my way of thinking. I don't.
What I actually claim is that the artist's idiocy is unique.
And of course that his peers and followers are either too young or mentally challenged.

>the comic implies that the average person thinks the rest of the people don't act for their best interest withing the limits of their capabilities and environment.
No, the comic implies everyone thinks he's smarter than his peers.
>>
>>52385739
I hate this sort of self-aggrandizing pseudo-intellectual bullshit.

If I write "fuck you nigger nigger nigger" on a piece of paper and hand it to them, and they get all offended and shit, am I then able to say to them, "BUT IT'S JUST AN ARRANGEMENT OF SYMBOLS BRUH!"?

No?

Then fuck off. He knows damn well that just because it's electronic doesn't mean it's intangible.
>>
>>52386725
He wasn't even trying either
>>
>>52386725
He's right though. I did a shitload of Fermi estimations myself (and still do) but I never thought about making a site and publishing interesting ones. Why don't you do it? Publish hundreds of them and build a fan base.

Come on, I've been searching for "what happens when you have 1 cent/MWh electricity" and nobody described that scenario well.

LOL
>>
>>52387132
You gonna be ok?
>>
>>52387130

Ok then, my bad.

Thinking you're smarter than everyone is a very healthy and desireable behavior most of the time. No big deal.

What are you talking about
>>
>>52387318
No. Pseudointellectualism puts the wrath of god into me and it's why I can't go to reddit anymore.
>>
>>52387381
Do you think that comic is saying that computers aren't useful? It's just a joke.

I read ExtraFabulous instead.

>>
>>52387548
I make the argument that people who think they're smarter than everyone else come off sounding like you.

Now, if you're going to take the attitude that you either have to think of yourself as being smarter or dumber than everyone else, then I see your point. However, the reality of the situation is that you're more intelligent than some and less intelligent than others. I take the view that the more accurate world view is the advantageous one.
