When did you realize that VR is fucking dumb?

When I realized I was poor like you.

You will never experience the waifu revolution, cuck.
>>
It's two, small, shitty displays strapped to your head for 600 fucking bucks. $600 for a piece of shit that requires a $1000 PC.

I'm sure the normies will love it, for a month or so.
>>
>>52356116
>two small shitty displays

did you even read anything about it?
or did you just shit out an opinion before seeing the facts
>>
>>52356116
>bwahahaha I have no monies!!!
>>
I tried the devkit, was underwhelming.
It's a neat toy, but it won't change the world.
The only thing I'd buy one for is simulators, because if I've spent thousands of dollars on flight sticks and steering wheels and head tracking equipment and several monitors, $600 isn't that much.
>>
>>52356135
That's literally what it is, cunt.
>>
>>52356113

>device half price
>waifu everywhere

>>
VR is fucking dumb but is fucking excellent for porn. Hard to go back to regular porn after you've had a pair of giant fake tits bouncing in your face. Or a butthole mere virtual centimeters away.
Everyone buying an occulus rift is buying it for a porn machine lets not lie to ourselves.
>>
2 years ago when i actually tried it at e3.

>>
>>52356198
it is two pretty high quality screens with a device that tracks you head and allows you to move it in a 3D space. I have played some games on there which have blown my mind compared to playing them normally, elite dangerous etc. It might not be mainstream but then neither are flightsticks or other peripherals yet those are great to use.

Also nice arguing skills.
>>
>>52356317
I played a superman simulator which sucked, but the beach villa and the ghost corridor ones were pretty cool.
It's really just a very polished and entertaining gimmick.
It has it's uses, but it's not going to revolutionize the way we experience media.
Really the best application for it is replacing TrackIR in games like ARMA and IL-2.
>>
>>52356223
yeah, its excellent when retard virgins try to hype it up. then you put one on and realize the image quality is fucking atrocious, the edges are blurry, the field of view is garbage.

watch this on cardboard youtube vr to get an idea or you can even experience chills in 2d on a monitor in my opinion
>>
>>52356387
no, the best experience is simulators in which you sit in a cockpit or cab, and where you can actually be in the space for all intents and purposes.

A laptop is literally just a bunch of plastic and metal. Why would you ever want that when you could just get metal and plastic from hotwheels????!!!!!!
>>
>>52356413
IL-2 is a WW2 flight simulator.
Just an example but yeah, if I had one I'd use it for games like Dirt Rally, flight sims, Elite Dangerous, etc.
That's an application I can really see working well.

>>52356450
Yeah it's cool, but it's no cooler than the first time I saw 3D, everything people are saying about Oculus they also said about 3D, and that didn't catch on.
Yes I know you're going to tell me how ambitious VR is and how different it is to 3D but the same principle applies, it's a visual gimmick supposed to make things seem "real".
>2003
>oh wow this James Cameron movie is so cool in 3D it's like I'm really there!
>2015
>oh wow this Oculus Rift game is so cool it's like I'm really there!

I'm just not buying it, using one didn't make me run to get my credit card and secure a pre-order, it's a fun peripheral, it's not a media revolution.

>>
>>52356575
VR itself is not that impressive. The feature that makes it a good peripheral is head tracking, that allows it to be used more. It won't be useful for most things but it will be incredibly useful for anything with a cockpit.

I am not convinced it will be useful for FPS games in any way, you cannot get the accuracy or speed of K&B and if you try to use one whilst wearing it it will fuck with your head.
>>
>>52356575
the problem with 3d was that it was cinema/tv content only and you had to rely on everything hollywood spit out.

with vr, it's a completely other thing the way it is now.

VR is not a 3D tv which gives you an idea of immersion, VR wants to replace your presence and it's just something nobody can escape from if done right
>>
>>52356617
Unless you're playing something like ARMA or Insurgency where more realism has some benefit, it won't be useful for competitive FPS, mostly because the fucking FOV is so narrow.
But I can see the training application for flight sims and the military issue version of ARMA.

Current VR is a gimmick. Sorry but that's the truth and you people know it.

Until we reach a level in wich we can directly connect ourselves with a virtual world via neural connections, something like in the matrix.

any other than that, the DK2 was also sold within EU

which is sensational illusions.

the thing about VR is that current type vr is pleasurable enough, because your sensory system mostly relies on your eyes and your hearings which can ultimately be enough to trick your sensory system in this regard. you don't need a TV which sends out fragrances into your nose to get a new level of entertainment either.

you can't simulate your whole set of sensations without biological research which first has to be discovered in the next 100 years any way.. so why not appreciate it as it is now? of course you have to try it first so just don't restrict yourself in it.

just try it out once it is publicy more available and don't talk it to the ground, we simply can't know yet

everything will arrive step by step.

living in america really must be a pain in the ass with so many people just wanting to lure out your moneys and coming up with so many nasty buzzwords that everything you see, causes mistrust because of your previous purchase choices.

i finally can relate with you...
>>
>>52357363
Not a freetard (a freetard wouldn't accept just OS X support). Rebooting into a different OS just for games is too much of a PITA, and I hate doing work and casual surfing under Windows so it really doesn't make sense for me to dual-boot windows just for gaming. If it's not available for OS X or PS4 I just won't play it.

yes

if you don't want roomscale VR
if you want to pay a lower price because HTC/Valve won't subsidize it as mad as facebook/oculus did

it could be that it gets delayed for a couple of months aswell

VR is worst of all worlds for porn.

Cuts many thousands of dollars from the budget that could've gone into getting actual hot girls instead of worn out budget stretch mark bitches.

The closer the camera is and the higher res they make it, the more you stare at stretch marks, hairs, pimples, pock marks and scars and pores.

If it's not a cartoon rig model, then the camera cannot look at her from every single direction, so it's only pretend-VR.
Girls aren't gonna stand still for millions of dollars of cameras to move 360 degrees in between each time they move slightly.

Anime also looks like shit from 360 degrees, so essentially all that works for oculus VR is 3d video game renders.
>>
>>52357544
HTC will be taking pre-orders next month. They have actual experience with high-volume production and delivery of hardware.
>>
>>52356865
>>52357170

>>
>>52357562
>so essentially all that works for oculus VR is 3d video game renders.

>>
>>52357562

>>
It's the VR version of the Google Glass, it makes you look like a moron groping imaginary stuff in the air, while sitting alone in your room.

Another meme technology meant to milk the masses of their hard-earned cash. Tech companies were in a dilemma after everyone got a smartphone and the tablet thing kinda flopped they needed the next meme tech.

I hope they get sold by the millions. :D
>>
>The story is set in the near future, where a chance invention allows people to experience virtual reality without the need for costly hardware — a seconds long movie drives a person into a sort of psychosis, forcing one's subconsciousness to perceive a simple 3D game as real world. Soon after the invention, Microsoft and IBM build a virtual city on the Internet called "Deeptown" (named so after the street name for VR — the Deep), which anyone is free to log on and enter. The painted world becomes a second home for millions people — but some of them 'sink', i.e. forget to return to the reality and eventually die of dehydration. Only a small group of people calling themselves divers are capable of leaving the Deep at will. Gods of the virtual world, they help those who sink.

so obvious you've zero experience in the industry and are the usual paint-huffing visionary waiting for a jetson's flying car.

The demand has already existed for decades, and look at how fucking ugly the face rigging is in Fallout 4.

Mocap is still expensive and time consuming and still doesn't make an animation porn-worthy.
Good sequences still take thousands of hours of labor by teams of poorly paid over-worked 3d animators and there's zero evidence that it's going to change any time soon.

For porn, if the 3D is too shitty it won't sell and if it's good but not good enough it'll be smack dab in the middle of the uncanny valley, which also won't sell. The only way 3D porn can work is if it's amazing. If that can't be achieved, 3D porn won't catch on as a market until a decade or more from now when/if the whole VR deal is revisited yet again.

Besides porn - VR won't take off in normal consumer markets.

However they will boom in places that are designed for VR that don't exist yet. Imagine one day walking into a mall and seeing a "Simulator Experience" center where you enter a room with a sophisticated omnidirectional treadmill while wearing Oculus and a haptic feedback suit... imagine the possibilities.

I watched Carmack's keynotes and the thing he talks about the most is how often people get sick if a game or an application isn't done exactly perfect or if the people so much as move their head in the wrong way.
Another thing he mentioned was a lack of content for VR. Not many people are going to have it and not many people are going to bother creating content for it at first. Apparently, you can't even play games with a first person perspective, like Half-Life or Thief, because you'll end up getting sick.

I'm really hyped for VR and all the cool gadgets you can get along with it, like the Tesla Suit or omnidirectional treadmills, but I think it'll take another couple of iterations of the consumer versions before the tech is at a point where you can really enjoy it without experiencing discomfort.

I'll see how much the Vive will cost and decide then if I'm going to get it or not because I'm still hype as fuck despite all the potential for shit.

But listening to Carmack, it sounds as if you can't really use VR comfortably yet without getting sick.
It's really good at tricking your brain into thinking you're inside a virtual world, but if you move inside the virtual world and remain stationary in the real world you get sick. If you tilt your head in a weird way or the developer messes up their scene composition, your senses get confused and you get sick.

It sounds as if VR needs another couple of years before it can do what people want.

I plan on buying a bunch of HMDs with something like Infinadeck and renting them out to people by the hour. High price means people would rather rent by the hour than own one and play at home, just like the 1st oldschool arcade games.

Actually the ONLY current full body haptic suit is quite dangerous. The suit literally electrocutes your body with very small volts like a TENS unit works. It has the potential to create a heart attack or do permanent nerve damage if the software fucks up or is hacked.
>>

Are you trying to convince me that I should buy rift just to play some shitty FPS ?

The only genre I would even consider it for is RPGs and the only one that comes to my mind that's first person is shitty Bethesda games. All the RPGs I even like are third person and old.

There's no reason for me to even want rift for "demanding" games. And if I want some virtual reality demo or just a fun tiny puzzle I can do that with my phone.
