i make music not play gaymes, i dont need a beefy GPU, i just need one that can power my screens.

I dont need to over clock, because 3.9ghz is plenty.

32gb ram because i make music, and it requires quite a bit of ram, 32 happesn to be my mobos limit.

this was all purchased the week haswell came out. well except the 960.

Are you the owner? If so you really overpaid on some of those parts. The board could be had for half that, the watercooling is two cheap shitty AIOs with a bigger rad added, the graphics card is over 2 years old and can be had for less than that, and I can't tell what case it is but it doesn't look like something that should cost that much.

There's nowhere to hide the cables unless you're using a long GPU and put them behind it like I'm doing, or if you for some reason use an ATX Psu you can hide them between it and the front wall of the case like in pic related.

I'm a silence fiend so my temps aren't the best, right now CPU/GPU idle around 40C, and max around 75/80.
That's with a Cryorig C7, no case fans, and the Reference cooler on the 980. If you use a better cooler and let the fans spin faster you can get perfectly reasonable temps. In fact, you can fit a 980ti hybrid + 120mm CPU AIO in the case at the same time, or dual 240mm rads if you go with a custom loop.

It's made of holes so it won't be quiet if your fans aren't, but by no means is silence unattainable. When I had a U9B-SE2 and a passively cooled 750ti my build was as close to silent as you can get at idle AND at load.

I'd say to roughly plan how you're going to build in it beforehand if you don't have much experience with mITX, and be prepared for some tight fits.
Be prepared to finish the build and realize something can be placed better for aesthetics/ function and feel the need to move it
Maybe get a bag to carry it in? I'm using the "Cabelas Trail-Camera Backpack"

The case is a 700D that I bought new shortly after they came out.

The board I paid a little over half price for, the 780 I picked up for $250 probably about a year ago.

Radiator, fittings, and reservoir aren't free but I didn't pay retail either.

I liked mine a lot, but there's a newer version out, the U9S, or you could look at the Cryorig M9i/a.

It is, actually! It's a quite spendy if you want to buy instead of DIY though.
https://www.hexagonpc.com/product/ncase-m1-custom-power-supply-cables/

Personally if I decided to shorten my cables I'd just cut down and re-crimp the cables that came with my SX500LG.

Alternative: https://www.hexagonpc.com/product/silverstone-sfx-modular-psu-cables/

and then just get custom length/ short extensions for what you feel needs to be shorter. Though I think this kit only works with the SFX PSUs, not the SFX-L since it's so close to the back of the GPU as is.

Picture is Lavins' (owner of that shop) build using his Ncase Kit

Still, my 290s are only overclocked by 13% (~+125MHz). I dunno, considering they're more 970 tier I expected a larger jump from 980s.
>>
>>52299379
The other day someone posted their score with a 970 and it was only ~500pts away from my score with a 980.

I think their 970 was OC'd a little from the factory, but still.

Just kind of proves how small the difference is between the 970 & 980.

The ultimate in my-friend-has-no-money-for-his-PC build.
>>
>>52303846

specs:

2x xeon X5345 @ 2.3ghz
6GB EEC Ram
random Intel server board (lulz)
expansion card for PCIe port (lulz)
cheap ATI video card
2x cheap 500GB sata drives (raid mirror)
greenwatts psu I got by RMA'ing one a customer threw out

all of these parts except the PCIe expansion card were free/leftovers from upgrades. even the case was free. expansion card was $20.

gave it to a friend to run his business books off of (pirated win7 running quickbooks). he locked it in a cabinet with no ventilation because "it was too loud" and it fucking overheated.

My roommate upgraded his pc this month and I was considering buying the leftover parts to finally build myself a desktop. He said he'd sell the parts at 75% their going rate.

>i5@2500
>Amd 6960
>Asus Z97

I think he might of meant a 6970 rather than the 6960. And I'm not 100% on which mother board he's got, but I'm pretty sure it's the Z97. Think it's a good place to start for my first tower?
>>
>>52306540
>i5-2500
>Z97

u wot.

You shouldn't buy a CPU and mobo that aren't compatible. Do your research on the parts again before you make a stupid purchase.

If it's an i5-xxxxK, get it.
If it's a Zxx that's compatible with the CPU, get it.
>>
>>52306807
He didn't actually tell me which motherboard he had, but it's obviously compatible since he was using them in conjunction. I thought it was a Z97 because I saw a box in our garage, which is probably from our other roommate.

Sorry about the confusion. I'll look a bit deeper before purchasing.

I whipped up this build today for a co-worker. And yes I know the 24pin isn't routed behind the mobo. The tall case and 24pin position made it so I couldn't route it behind the motherboard. They'll order a 24pin extension and then it'll be prime.

It's a blower-style 970. They all perform the same, more or less. Only differences between the various designs are in noise and temps. The fan note on the ASUS Turbo is more 'grindy' sounding than the reference Nvidia 970, which produces more of a 'woosh'. Neither design is loud, but I prefer the sound of the reference fan.

Temps are similar even though the Turbo has dual-intake fans. I think this is because the reference card has integrated backplates. Avoid the PNY blower 970 with its flimsy plastic shroud. I bought that model first, and it vibrates like a motherfucker. It could be heard two rooms away.

Pictured is my reference 970 SLI machine.

That's crazy. My x5672s idle at ~28c with 22-24c ambient temps. They're sharing a thin 360mm radiator, so it looks like you've got more surface area to dissipate the heat and they're both 95w TDP.

It's really not a spectacular loop. I should have paid attention to temps back when I first built it for the D5400XS to see how much of a difference it really made.

does corsair sell waterblocks or did you just modify some h100's?

Modified an H80 and an H100. The blocks are the same except the H100 supports two more fans.

My single socket nostalgia build.

The Raidmax Smilodon has zero provisioning for cable management, which is sad considering it's the only case I have with a window.
