Can someone stop the fucking trolling for a second and tell me if I should get one of these?
>>

>Can someone stop the fucking trolling for a second
No
>>
>>52265149
if you want storage buy a HDD they are way cheaper
if you want a system disk buy an SSD
>>
>>52265237
This. HDD for mass storage (most programs, videos, music, pictures, etc). SSD for your OS install (and for games with atrocious load times)
>>
Please do not support memetech.
>>
>>52265248
Programs should go on the SSD.
>>
>>52265248
Programs go on the SSD.... Media and data should hp on the HDD
>>
It's fucking 2016. Put everything on the SSD.
>>
>>52265317

>>
>>52265317
maybe in 2020 when 1tb ssd's are 50$
>>
Still have my SSD from 2013, I honestly can't go back to non SSD computers. I'll probably get an m.2 SSD in the next year or 2 since they're faster than regular SSDs
>>
>>52265317
if you have lots of money, yeah
but you don't suddenly get richer just because it is 2016
>>
>>52265344
Best make that in 2 years. M2/NVRAM/Etc SSD research is rapid right now.
>>
>>52265248
>SSD: Operating system, programs, games,
>HDD: Videos, music, pictures, documents, backups.
At least until SSDs become cheap enough to be used as your sole storage.
>>
>>52265352
Oh, thanks for the heads up
>>
>>52265149
If and only if you are absolutely positive you need it. It's a lot more comfortable, especially on laptops compared to 5400rpm HDDs. Not so much compared to WD Black or the like. The boost is most noticeable upon gathering random data, so the opertating system will be a lot more responsive in actions like opening start menu, opening random files, etc. No performance boost. I know what I'm saying, my laptop is retardedly slow (5400rpm hdd) compared to my desktop (ssd + raid0 from two 7200rpm hdds).
>>
if you dont have an SSD by now youre retarded as fuck. When did SSD's become a "meme", good lord

Do SSDs still have shit life/reliability?

What size is needed?

What brands to get/avoid?

pls feed babby
>>
>>52266494
this video is so biased, no fucking way HDDs are that slow.
>>
>>52266729
Get 250gb because 128 is only slightly cheaper. It's not that more expensive to get almost double the size.
Get Samsung, Toshiba or Adata and avoid Kingston
>>
>>52265149
depends, do you already have a decent PC with a 1tb HDD? if yes, adding an SSD and reinstalling your OS on it will give you a nice performance boost all around.

no, they actually are slightly more durable than HDDs
> What size is needed?
256GB minimum
> What brands to get/avoid?
Get SanDisk or Samsung, avoid Kingstom

Pic related are my speeds, feels good m8, 10 seconds boot with disk encryption enabled.
>>
>>52265149
If you are dumb enough to ask this question, then the answer is no, retards like you don't deserve nice things!
>>
Do you need/really want the speed and can afford it

Yes.

Do you want more affordable space solutions

No.

This should be simple. They are good products, build quality is fine, speed is fine, price to performance is good. Rest is on the consumer.

>>
>>52266960
why anon kun?
>>
>>52265149

YES

SSDs are biggest technology leap in decades,
spinde HDDs (~ 80x slower than RAM) have
been bottlenecking PCs for decades.
>>
>>52265149
Got the $$$, want the speed? Ok.

No? Ok.

It is a luxury, not a necessity.

Videos and music should always go on the SSD or else you will constantly hear the HDD rotating whenever you want to listen to a video/music.

Reminder that you can't even defrag your files if you save them to a ssd.
>>
>>52269476
this.
the pro has like 2% better read and 2%worse write, or something.

It would be nice if it actually made sense to defrag an SSD but doing so would be like moving spokes on a bicycle wheel. All data is already accessible as fast as possible. Defrag would be pointless and just waste cycles.

Nope. They really are that slow. 2,5' HDDs are shit.
>>
>>52269673
no, the pro has slightly more read, but hihger write speed and has more write cycles.

aka its a scratch drive NOT an OS drive
>>

Not using the cloud!
:3~~c
>>
I've had it for 6 months and it's still working fine.

You can extrapolate my one use-case to infer that it's a great product.

If you don't want to splurge yet use the hybrid approach with one SSD for OS and programs and the rest goes on the HDD

Care to back it up? Samsung SSD's have the best performance/price/reliability ratio on the market right now.

>Algolia posted a new update. Turns out The issue was the Linux Kernal, not the SSDs. Update from today, July 17th, "Samsung had a concrete conclusion that the issue is not related to Samsung SSD or Algolia software but is related to the Linux kernel. Samsung has developed a kernel patch to resolve this issue and the official statement with details will be released tomorrow, July 18 on Linux community with the Linux patch guide."

Thirding Crucial.
I've never had any problem with any crucial memory or storage. They're just good at what they do.
