Being serious here, I have no idea what the fuck I am doing right now, I can't work anything properly.

How do I unfuck myself? Should I learn Arch or go back to windows?
>>
>>52263877
Just go back to Windows if you have to ask.
>>
Yeah, but at the same time I want to learn a little bit of linux, but don't know where to start

seeing as how I already have Arch installed on my pc it seems like the perfect opportunity to try.

having my doubts, and wanted some anons opinions

Plus it's kind of difficult to go back to windows when you can't connect to the internet

I suppose I could see if I can download the driver files on linux and put them in my windows filesystem but I still am trying to learn how to navigate files

Really glad my network adapter works outta the box on linux
>>
Is this bait? How can you install arch enough to post WITH dual booting and at the same time not be able to fix your windows install? Just use arch to download the drivers. I smell fake, it is like seeing someone solve P=NP and at the same time have problems doing simple arithmetic
>>
>>52263877
>i3
install xfce first
>>
>>52264391
Not bait, sorry, I watched a few videos and printed a few guides,

Than I drank a bit too much and thought it was a good idea to go ahead with the installation.

I have no idea how to use i3 or even close it. Currently trying to grab a screenshot using this program called scrot I just downloaded.

The conflict of interests kills me

Don't be scared.

1. Open the i3 basic guide, and keep it in its own workspaces. You change workspaces with alt-shift-number.
2. Refer to guide when you don't know what to do.
3. Enjoy freedom and productivity.
>>
>>
>>52263877
if you got that far while "really drunk", you can manage it
>>
>>52264484
shit, forgot to say that I got the screenshot program working.
>>
>>52264442
scrot image.png
to capture the whole screen

scrot -s image.png
to select a part of the screen to capture

scrot -u image.png
captures the current window (works best as a hotkey so you can capture a window other than the terminal you're typing the command in)
>>
>>52264484
you can exit a shell with ctrl+d or typing "exit"

any window can be closed in i3 with $mod+shift+q, where $mod is either super key (windows key) or alt

>>
>>52264484
i always wondered about these wms

is it possible to actually hide some of the windows?
like, i wouldnt want skype to take up 25% of my screen while shitposting on 4chan
>>
>>52264735
was reading the user guide, found out that you could resize and move windows.

Maybe it won't be so bad
>>
>>52264735
you can open new workspaces (see the 1 at the bottom?) with $mod+some number 1-10

you can move things to a "scratchpad" (hides it in the background in a "secret workspace" sort of) with $mod+shift+hyphen, and bring them back up from the scratchpad with $mod+hyphen
(i changed the hyphen to ~ for me because it's more accessible)
>>
>>52264735
>>52264791
Sorry, read that wrong,

Either way I am adjusting to this somewhat.

Once I get it to not look so shit I might actually enjoy arch
>>
>>52264735
>installed skype
you already fucked up
>>
>>52264735
I use shift+mod+winKey to move Windows go the clipboard. Just read up on clipboards on the i3 page. I sometimes put my Porn on my clipboard when i have people over.

Intall thunar. Its a great file manager!
>>
>>52264983

>>
>>52264999
Oke ... Thats fine too.
>>
>>52263877
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Learn Arch (whatever the fuck that means?) As an exclusive arch user, it's basically just using reuglar linux.
>>
>>52265032
It's just using a kernel? I don't think so.
>>
>>52265051
I mean GNU, but you know what I meant
>>
>>52265032
>>52265062
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

pic related op, once you rice it to be like this, then you're allowed to post in desktop threads ad infinitum
also, never use gui, alwasy use terminal
only gui you need is for web browsing, but even then, never use google chrome, use qutebrowser or firefox with vimperator
thanks f.am
>>
>>52265144
Yeah, I only downloaded chromium since it was the first browser to come to mind

I would have downloaded firefox, but I heard something about it being a spyware/botnet a few weeks(?) ago.
>>
>>52263877
You were curious but apprehensive -- why you performed this drunk. I think you want to tinker but are overwhelmed at the thought of leaving your windows safety net. It's no matter what OS you use, but you seem to want to explore computing more. Don't hold yourself back.
>>
>>52264833
XD, the last time you got laid was last year, and i mean 2014 faggot !
>>
>>52265180
who cares, nobody hacks anymore, only nsa, and they have access to everything anyways
>>
>>52265386
you're an idiot

>>52265180
install iceweasel for a firefox cleansed of ads, hello and pocket. that said, firefox isn't that bad if you just go and manually disable these
>>
>>52263877
>Print out some Arch install guides
kek
>>
>>52265438
>iceweasel
it's icecat now
>>
>>52265603
they're 2 separate projects now. icecat is maintained by GNU, and iceweasel by debian
>>
>>52265656
this is why we can't have nice things
>>
>>52265144
Ah shit, gotta listen to some moonman tunes asap.

>1hour later still nothing

why can't I do anything correctly the first time I try it with the help of a guide /g/?
my first successfull installation of Debian took me 5 tries as well

Dumb frog poster.

if a car were designed like Linux:

- The mechanic would tell you to "RTFM and fix it yourself!"

- The brake pedal would be on the right and accelerator on the left.

- You'd have dashboard buttons with names like "bt", "nrf", and "xs2".

- You push "xs2" to see what happens, and the car accelerates forward without warning.

- Only 15% of all seat covers would fit and you'd have to drive to New Mexico to find tires that fit.

- Sometimes the brakes don't work, and TFM tells you to enter "stop -pd -V" in the command line as an alternative.

- You accidentally type a lower case "-v" in the above command set, and the car goes faster instead of stopping.

- You then smash into a brick wall at 70mph, and oddly the engine can still run.

- You'd get beat up by Linux Car fans if you dare criticized it (or modded to hell, like I'm about to be).
