cute tier 2 tech think he deserves to be an engineer

Yo, I'm a shitty, just-starting-out programmer.

People are always talking about securing their ports. I know nothing about networking, so I just don't get what's actually done to secure them.

Where do I get started with this / learning about this? I've done some googl'n, and it's not helping.

Most antivirus or antimalware software will detect botnets. The first step is prevention. You not only need the right software and tools but you also need to know how to prevent them.
>>
>>52260612
Just block it at the firewall
>>
>>52260810
how do I prevent something that is written into the kernel itself?

Test me

When referring to securing ports, the first thing to do is acknowledge the services being used. Only open ports to services that are required or essential. When talking about open ports, we mean port forwarding through a router or firewall to allow external traffic to an internal system or device.

So then my question is are you referring to an operating system or software? This becomes more about trust than anything right here. Using a Linux operating system or open source software from a trusted source.
>>

I'm asking how do I packet sniff from a source mac that isnt on the host machine.
>>
>>52260951
Run a network scanner like Nmap then Wireshark filter by MAC address or IP. Must be on the same subnet as that host.
>>
>>52261001
So wireshark can sniff packets that are being sent from another machine on the same network to the router?
>>
>>52261026
He's telling shit, look at how works arp and routing tables, even a ccna scum should know it.
>>
>>52261026
That's correct. You will be able to see all the traffic on that subnet using Wireshark.

I would think Network+ would even cover this topic
