WIN3.1/95/98SE/ME/2K/XP ONLY THREAD
NO POST XPSP3 SHIT
does anyone else use classic operating systems regularly still ?
People like to claim that debian stable is ancient, so can I join?
>>52243887
no, sorry
Homeworld works on 10.
MOO2 works on 10.
Why would I need an old OS when there's DOSBox for everything else?
>>52243963
but i'm using an ancient linux kernel...
>>52243831
Any good screencapture programs for older os?
>>52243979
Nostalgia mostly. And super quick and no bullshit
>>52244028
Try hitting the fucking printscreen key and pasting into paint
I've got an SE30 running OS 6 that I like but I haven't figured out what to do with it. it could be fun as a word processor with no distracting functions
I've got a win2k machine with a 350mhz Pentium ii that I used to use to migrate data from zip drives to more modern formats
>>52243979
Dosbox can emulate Win9x with good performance and 3D support now? No not really.
>>52243831
>>52244028
Classic Mac OS versions take screenshots the same way as OS X does today:
Cmd-Shift-3 = screen to file
Cmd-Shift-4 = portion of screen to file
Add Ctrl to the above to get clipboard instead.
Only difference is that Classic Mac OS saves screenshots to PICT files, which according Wikipedia "...consists essentially of serialized QuickDraw opcodes...and was designed to be as compact as possible while describing vector graphics."
>>52244179
Pretty much anything that's 3D accelerated will run on 10.
Can I play?
>>52244488
come here baby
>>52244488
Yes. Sexy.
Now tell me, any reason you use XP still?
>>52244818
This is why I use XP.
>>52245260
>that bloat
>>52245287
Let's see your desktop
>>52245287
Got it working fully yesterday.
>>52245517
Mine was still fully functional.
>>52245507
Didn't keep any screenshots, even though I was on it from 07 to 14.
>>52245692
What OS are you on now? And why?
>>52245790
10. When I picked up a 16GB machine for $150 I couldn't really stick with a 32 bit OS. I got 8.1 from someone with a MSDN and upgraded out of that shit the first chance I got.
Windows 98 SE w/98lite.
Sometimes I like to turn off the visual style on windows 7. But I get a lot of tearing and visual glitches when doing this so I quickly turn it back on again. Any way to solve this?
>>52245942
You're not using any compositing when turning off hardware accel.
Win98/ME users: there is a neat software called KernelEX that lets you run a lot of Win2k/XP only programs on win9x, opera, firefox, speccy, smplayer and so on.
>>52246015
>>52245850 here. It's quite useful but won't work with any recent versions of Opera or Firefox. I tried this with an Compaq Armada 110 (fuck chinkpads, compaq is more robust) running Windows ME w/KernelEX,and latest Firefox release bitched about needing XP SP2 or later. That was with KernelEX installed.
>>52246041
Not in development for 3 years or so, but runs FF 10LTS quite well.
>>52243831
i have imac g4 with with osx panther (with os922 classic inside), would like to post screenshot but the wifi is ded and dont i no longer have rj45 cable around
>>52243831
>those OSs
>classic
>>52245536
>bunghole sun
>>52247123
>bungholio sun
Fixed.
>>52243831
Eh seems like the perfect thread to post this.
Just got my hands on an old notebook(pic related). It tends to get really slow sometimes, mainly when browsing and stuff.
Would XP help with that? Would I notice any change/improvement in overall performance?.
I'm probably remembering wrong but I had an old celeron(2.0 GHZ I think) with 1 gb of RAM back in 2006-7 and while it wasn't perfect It didn't seem to have the problems this one has(as in slowing down just because I'm using youtube), no need to say that one had XP.
Also what would be the best browser for this?
>>52247313
A lightweight linux distro would be a better option. XP is insecure and outdated.
>>52248002
>insecure and outdated
>use linux
kek
Here it is again!
Le Luddite circleojerklio
>>52247313
You might have some virus anon. Unless you're really exaggerating about Youtube I don't think that PC as old as it is would go slow just because of that.
>>52248002
>Linux
>>52243831
debian stable
>>52248116
I think you need TP for your bungholio.
>>52248358
Why DOSBox? Can't you just use DOS?
>>52248370
No. That's Windows 7.
>>52248358
Classic shell?
>>52248054
Windows is the world's number one target for malware, and XP is no longer updated. Neither of these are true for Linux.
>>52248391
I just noticed the tray icons. Hurr.
>>52243831
What's wrong with SP3? My Pentium II laptop runs it fine. I might go back to 2000 since web browsing isn't really all that good on the modern Firefox. It actually works though unlike Chrome.
