What's /g/'s consensus on old 3.5" hard drives? Mine still work great but they're just not worth plugging in as an external for just 80 GB of storage when I have a 1-4 TB 2.5" externals now. Should I just throw them in the trash?
>>
You could JBOD them?

Hdds are fun. Take them apart and play with the magnets and disks after you've transferred the data to a bigger place.
>>

Buy a docking station and use them for extra cold storage backup, make a few copies on different drives and you are good to go.
>>
pry them open and put them on your shelf as a decoration
>>
Still useful as an OS drive. You usually dont need more than 120 GB to hold an OS and all your programs and then just put all your documents, videos and other data into externals.
>>
I use mine mainly as cold storage drives for data I won't access for awhile. Mostly archives and one or two as pure backups just in case of some sort of clusterfuck failure.

I keep a few large ones in a bank in the event of a house fire or theft as well.

Get a SATA "rack" that fits in a 5,25" CDROM space.

If it's an IDE, then don't bother with it, sell it for a few bucks.

Your loli collection doesn't count as important data basement dweller

20 watts for 80 GB is not cost effective unless you get your power for free.

Dumb consumer trash, go back to your "what 900 dollar phone should i buy this month" threads.

Some people have disposable income they can use to buy things that makes their life easier you dumb weeaboo faggot
Just because you're living in your mom's basement and have ti choose between buying an SSD and eating for a month doesn't mean it's the case for everyone

>Making life easier = can open microsoft word in 2 seconds

Keep trying to hold back that buyer's remorse anon-kun.

I'm not even the guy you replied to
If you can't understand why some people would want their programs to load faster you're seriously mentally challenged though
>>
Install gentoo on it then sell it in a garage sale saying that an OS is already in it and it's just a plug and play.
>>
>>52233734
>gentoo
>plug 'n play
why you don't do it with a bare arch installation it's even more normie friendly
>>
>>52233816
I know Ubuntu is pretty plug and play. That would probably be the best option
>>

I'd say save them for old Xbox HUEG machines.

I had a 80GB Maxtor laying around and a old 2002 Xbox,so I upgraded the old 10GB Seagate in it.

>and before you all go on a rage, almost 95% of the Xbox is PC hardware - even the controller ports, they're just custom MS-made USB 1.1 ports.
>>
>>52230720
They make good targets. Just got around to going back over 5 old hard drives (between 4 GB and 14 GB) from years ago and getting anything that could be important off of them, after which I wiped them and shot at them with my family on New Years.
