It's a snowball effect. People pressure their friends and family to buy iphones to use iMessage and FaceTime on. It's the same way Facebook got popular.

Never been a fan but decided to get a Macbook because it was the only laptop that most closely matched the price of the laptop I got for christmas in the store (came with a faulty hard drive and had to return it). Returning it again next week I think, it's just not worth the price tag, it literally has less than half the specs I got from the first laptop at a ridiculous price.
