>Go to AT&T because they're ending the 2 year subsidized phone plan and my LG Optimus Pro 2 is getting a little on in years, some of my applications don't have full features, my smart watch does not connect with it, etc.
>Decide to say fuck it and get a Blackberry because I'd rather have a physical keyboard, even if the whole point of me upgrading was because of lack of app support
>"I'd like to buy a phone."
>"Would you like the next plan?"
>No
>They set me up with a rep who takes me to a table and sits me down, what the hell?
>Asks for my account information, etc.
>"Okay, so if you want the 2 year phone, your rate goes up."
>"What?"
> He shows me a flyer that says my current data plan is 15/mo, but if I get a 2 year contract phone, I go up to 40/mo
>"You see, if you get the next plan it's cheaper."
>"No it's not. It's 15 dollars a month, plus the monthly cost of the phone which would put it at around... 40 a month."
>He looks back at me
>I rub my temples, "So you're saying if I want a new phone, I'm locking myself into paying more money?"
>"Yes."
>"I'll just stick with what I have."

What a fucking joke of a company. How do they get away with shit like this? How did we let them?
>>

Why are you even here?

Yeah, nah.

What do you think you're paying for on your precious contract plan you retard?
>>
>>52211037
>"So you're saying if I want a new phone, I'm locking myself into paying more money?"
How the fuck is this an unreasonable statement. Of course if you want a new device, it's going to cost you the money to buy it. How fucking retarded are you?
>>
Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.
Not sold in American due to bullshit patent laws.
>>
>>52211037
And what if you fake never having a phone with them, will they offer you the same prices?
>>
>>52211252
I think I'm signing a contract stating that I'll stay on board with them for two years. As an incentive to enter a contract, they subsidize the price on a phone. Like they've been doing for years.

Why should they hike my bill up $25 dollars so I can enter a two year contract?
>>
>>52211286
More money a month, is what I meant to type.

>>52211289
>Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
Thanks, I'll look into this.

You expected them to give you a free phone?
>>
>>52211341
>More money a month, is what I meant to type.
No shit. If you buy a phone on a plan, then the cost of the phone is factored into the cost of the plan. Are you stupid?
>>
>>52211304
Playing the game, you want a new phone? I took it hard up the butt to get out of my 2 year contract but plan on keeping the phone for as long as possible on prepay for 15 a month plus 10 for airtime. I tried to go back to my old flip phone but it was already obsolete. Not really into the tracking apps so have no data. It's a phone and a texter. Also its too big, don't really even like it.
>>
>>52211304
>As an incentive to enter a contract, they subsidize the price on a phone.
But that's wrong you fucking idiot.

As an incentive they offer you a loan to be paid as an addition to your phone bill. Yes, a loan, with interest. Calling it a subsidy is highly misleading. That's the way it's always been.
>>
>>52211304
>Why should they hike my bill up $25 dollars so I can enter a two year contract?
Because you're getting a fucking phone.
24 month * $25 = $600.
You're paying $600 extra in those 2 years.
That's the price of the phone.
Now would you rather pay $600 for the phone now, or pay it extra over the course of 2 years?
I know this is probably bait, but still, normies are so fucking stupid. You're paying for the phone either way.
>>
>>52211391

Buying a phone on a two year contract with AT&T has never come with the caveat of an extra $25 tacked on to the bill. What Kool-Aid have you guys been drinking?

>>52211366
Only if it's a garbage phone. I was fine with paying a subsidized price seeing that I was agreeing to give AT&T money for two years. This is how it's worked since I've been getting cell phones.
>>
>>52211037
I thought this was common practice. Verizon gave my ex a free phone, but then had this line fee crap that meant she was paying for the phone over time and then some. I use cricket and pay $35 / month and just bought my phone off swappa instead. Saved a ton of money over time vs. a contract.
>>
>>52211037
This is probably bait but Americans have it good so don't bitch too much OP. For me to get 3GB of data in Canada with a subsidized Samsung S5 on a 2 year plan that started in May right when the S5 came out, my plan costs $90.00 per month plus tax. I'm into my phone for over $100 per month. American carriers are cheap in comparison. Plus if I go over my 3GB it's $10 per GB in waves (I. E. If I use 3.1 GB or 3.9 GB I'm charges $10)
>>
You're a fucking joke OP

>contract on my andropoverty phone ends
>want to get off google's wild ride
>buy a used, unlocked blackberry q10 from a qt girl because she bought herself a BB Passport
>she has taken good care of it, it's in absolutely mint condition, leather case have a nice feminine scent of her, earphones never used, charger still sealed in the plastic bag.
>160 USD in 2014.

>get a contract without a device with my family
>unlimited calls, unlimited messaging, 25GB of data a month
>10 USD a month.

Stop being a good goy.
You can save money on it, all you need to do is use your brain and do a little bit of research.
>>
>>52211498

you can use that cricket or virgin or t mobile or whatever nigger company shit if you live in the city.

if you actually have a car and go places for work that shit doesn't work.

i'm a verizon cuck because i like my freedom to get coverage anywhere in the country. freedom isn't free, or cheap, or even fucking reasonable. my monthly bill is a hundred dollars and that's with my company discount and only 1GB of data with a subsidized phone.
>>
If you're hassled with $40 data plans, you might as well get a nice phone off eBay and then get on a prepaid line, OP.
>>
>>52211601
Sorry to hear about your cucking. Verizon has great coverage, but my experiences with CDMA have not been good. Cricket is owned by AT&T and has the same coverage area they do, which works for me. I don't travel too regularly, but haven't had any coverage issues, even out in the sticks.
>>
YEah I'm with ATT now. I get good service from them generally, but I have to fight for it.

att is god damn shit and as soon as my brother and his gf's plan ends in april i'm abandoning ship.

This post is -2/10 bait.
>>
>>52211458
Actually it has. When Next was introduced, I had a Nexus 5 and I was paying 80 a month. When I upgraded to an LG G3 on 2 year contract, I paid 0 dollars upfront for the phone, plus the activation fee and then they still tacked an extra ~15 or so dollars a month onto my bill.

If they didn't have the best coverage, I'd say fuck it and go to T-Mobile, but I need service everywhere I go.

This, OP. You're too dumb to understand how contracts work. The company ain't "subsidizing" shit for you: you can either pay outright, or go on a payment plan. They just disguise it with fancy plans and features and rates, but that's all you're doing, a payment plan. You'll pay full price of the phone eventually no matter what.

Now stop being a financial cuck and save up 600$.

I'm not broke. I need GSM phones because I travel for work and I frequently use prepaid SIM's you can buy at the airport. Plus Verizon is shit anyway. At least where I live. I'd rather have Sprint than Verizon.
>>
Phones are a reminder of what happens when a market is made as closed as possible right off the bat to make the maximum amount of money.
With PCs, consumers already had a taste for freedom, and desktop users never put up with bullshit.
>>
Buy a phone else where and put your sim in it op. You could even save some money if you buy used. I got a lg g3 for 300$ when they had just come out because some guy didnt like it.

Not enough government regulation.

Every time you hear "Nanny State" or "muh constitution!" it's actually propaganda from big companies trying to rally against government regulation so they can dick over their customers.

Regulation isn't the big bogey man it's made out to be.

this isn't bait man everyone I currently work with is going through this same problem because all the small towners think they need new personal ID items for the new years

I don't own a cellphone because I don't have the budget yet, I'm still lowlevel postgrad wageslave and I get literally scowled at when its brought up that I don't own a phone. I have been told that as an american I am entitled to a phone and I should get one, go in debt on the bill, and then sign up for assistance so the gov't can start paying back my cell bill

That's what everyone is telling me to do that is actually honestly what a lot of people are doing
