Why? It makes your rig twice as vulnerable to drive failure.
>>
>>52207978
cause of the increased speed
and who cares about drive failure not like i´d put my OS or anything important onto that thing
stuff like games and other shit that i can´t be bothered to have slow loading times with gets onto that raid

I'd build around something more conservative with a nice giant 4k monitor.
>>
>>52208258
isn´t the response time for 4k TVs quite bad? >1ms
>>
>>52208338
Response time as a noticeable problem as it concerns 1 ms gaming monitors is exaggerated, but 7500 is one of the best tvs for it at 21 ms. Which is excellent given how good it looks.

new pc for gaming, x-ray viewing and short video editing. meant to be somewhat 'future proof', so it's OCable and with new 1151 socket and ddr4 ram and shit. current living situation requires me to use wifi, unfortunately. SSD I already have. any glaringly obvious mistakes?
>>
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qgnCNG
How's this for a £500 UK gaming build? Have a 1600x900 monitor so it won't quite be 1080p.

>>52208717
looks good m8. You could try and find 2 2x4gb ram packs to allow quad channel instead of dual, but it night be more expensive. And I didn't know Wi-Fi adapters were that expensive? I've got one connected with usb which cost half that. Might be worst though.
>>
The best bang for your buck rig that you'll find.

>>
>>52208816
Thanks mate. Is your USB antenna any good? I used to have a super cheapo USB wifi stick many years ago and it was awful, but I have no clue what's there in terms of quality between super cheapo and way too expensive.
Is quad channel RAM a lot better than dual channel? I like how I could potentially stuff two more 8gb sticks into the mobo if i felt like augmenting my e-peen one day.
>>
>>52208816
You obviously shouldn't be recommending or criticizing other people's builds.

He could get 4 sticks if he needs the extra RAM, but telling him that 4 sticks will give him the benefit of quad channel is just wrong. Skylake only supports dual channel.Quad channel support is generally for EP CPUs.

wew lad
>>
>>52208880
quad channel doesnt matter. The only things I'd mess with on your build are minor preferences. 170a krait is my 1151 mobo of choice. Sapphire 390 over 970. Bigger psu for crossfire option. Raijintek Aidos is cheaper and equal to evo.

Your build is overall fine though.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WN821N-300Mbps-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B00194XKXA
This is the one. It's good for the price, but I understand what you mean. Might be on the safer side to go with your one, but it's up to you. I'd say do a bit of research on both and see if yours is worth the price.
And quad channel is better but I doubt it's really worth paying that much for. As >>52208950 said, Skylake doesn't support it, which is my mistake. 2x8gb is good for the upgradability, so your setup would still be good.
>>
>>52209030
looks solid, but doesn't seem to support 802.11ac. I've got the cash to spare to be on the safe side with the expensive PCIe card (yay Christmas bonus!), so I doubt I'll regret buying that. good to know that your model works well; always good to have a portable USB wifi adapter for emergencies.
>>
>>52209299
right fair enough then! i doubt you'll be disappointed with that too. and yeah i guess a usb one is pretty handy just in case too. >>52208992 raises some good points as well you might wanna look over, but apart from that it all looks great. hope it all goes well anon.

After a lot of reworking, managed to arrive here. Getting the GPU from a friend so it's fixed (and cheap), but everything else will be new. Very happy with the build now, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to get some last-minute feedback. Any suggestions before I pull the trigger? Prices are in worthless aussiebux so don't be bothered by that.

The image is what it looks like under full stress test of prime95. Are those numvers still okay, or Weak compared to today's Good?

Can I potentially overclock it more? Temperature during stress test was steady 69-70 C and dropped to 43-45 an instant I stopped the test.

oh yeah, plan to be using it for mid-tierish gaming but lower end stuff works out to be around the same price here anyway so I figured going for somewhat future-proof parts was a good idea

My first build and I'm going to be upgrading it over the years. I tried to buy some great parts and a few others that I wouldn't really care about in a year or two. I probably fucked up a little bit, but beginners mistakes I guess

>>
>>52211894
is this for gaming? if so this is terrible. i don't think 5th gen supports ddr4 does it? why spend so much on the ram anyway? overpriced cpu, mobo, ram, case, and keyboard. for the cost of the build, the gpu is weak as fuck. the mousepad makes me hope you're just memeing.
>>
>>52212096
like I said, I plan on upgrading over the years.
The first thing I'm going to upgrade is definitely the gpu.
And the case is actually the case of a shitty computer I bought on craigslist for $150, and the mousepad just looks nice, not memeing
>>
>>52211894
I'm going to be honest here, that build is rubbish, theres too many to list
>>
>>52212217
honesty is good. It's my first ever build and id rather get some constructive criticism. What could I get that'll help?
>>
>>52212096
I7-5820k is considered 4th gen and yes it does support ddr4 ram as it only supports it. I got my Asus x99a/3.1 from newegg open box for 150 but usually they are very expensive. Plus he is overpaying for his ram for the looks as I purchased 8x4gb of hyperx fury for 200. If he was able to save money on those two components he would have to wait to update his gpu.
>>
>>52212240
if thats for gaming, the 5820k will have lower FPS than the 4720k and 6700k because of clock speeds, evenmore the 5820k loses a lot of fps in 4k gaming than the 4720k and 6700k, for proof look at results for these cpus on youtube.
With that budget I would of went the NZXT x61 liquid cooler its much much better.
16GB ddr4 for $269 with slow timings don't know why would you get that.
Too many to list too lazy
>>
MINI ITX OR MICRO ATX?
>>
>>52212327
Buying extreme processor, not overclocking. Hitting 4.8 on my 5820k seeing no difference between 4790k until 4k then only getting higher fps.
>>
>>52212327
This is what I'm talking about. I was really amateur and stupid to have done this shit on my own before consulting /g/
I'm going to deal with what I have for the time being, but Ill have to keep a list of better parts to upgrade my build
>>
>>52212240
>>52212217
Its not bad, but the case you got is not very good nor is the AIO you bought.
>Are you planing on swapping out you gpu when the new HBM 2.0\16nm stuff comes out?
>>
>>52212016
looks good anon
>>
>>52212414
Absolutely.
I bought the gpu knowing I'll have to buy a 970 or better in a while. but currently, i'm using that shitty $150 i bought on craigslist to browse / game.
Needed my own build and needed to buy parts when I had extra money to spare.
But luckily I got a raise recently and I'll be able to purchase better parts soon.

>>52214827
With an increased budget I'd do 16gb 3200 mhz tridentZ, since it isn't that much more expensive per gb. An ssd is very noticeable but a 2k mb/s pci ssd isn't noticeable over a 500 mb/s sata ssd. A pair of 250gb samsung 850 evo in raid 0 will get 1k mb/sec, cost half as much, and be indistinguishable for most things.

Overclocking isn't a big deal you just click a button in whatever app for your mobo software.

Maybe get a slightly better case like a h440 or enthoo pro.
>>
>>52214985
There is a huge drop off below a certain class of cards for both radeon and nvidia. GTs aren't meant for gaming but like as a replacement for igpu for processors that dont have them. That card will cost like $80 but have 20% of the power of a 270x that cost like $120 because its a gaming card.
>>
>>52215158

then which card should i buy with a proce range between 80 - 95 dollars?
>>
Heyas /g/, first time posting here. Found myself work a couple months ago and now I'm doing research and looking for what kind of PC I want to build.

I'll mostly be using the PC for youtube/gaming/skype and possibly livestreaming, is this build alright?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/k34T23

Apologize in advance if my build is utter shit.
>>
>>52215201
They don't sell non rip off cards in that range. The cheapest actual cards worth buying that you can get new now are the r7 370, 750 ti, gtx 950, and r9 270.
>>
>>52215308
either pair that cheap mobo with a cheaper cpu like i5-6400 or get a z170 board for $100-$140. Get a Sapphire if you are buying a 390.
>>
>>52215308
get 16gb of ram instead of 8. 8 is to little for all that shit.

>6600K
>H110 chipset
get a z170 chipset for you can at least use your processor to its full potential. its worthless to get a k series and stick it on a h110 chipset.

>1x 250gb ssd
pair a 1tb hard drive with it at least. you will really be strapped on storage space with one ssd if you plan on having more than 3 games installed.

replacing my old A10-5800k setup, which was nice but the damn thing just made too much noise while doing essentially nothing. We'd have to turn the volume up while watching a movie sometimes because it's fans would spin up so much.

Did a straight trade of my FX-8320 from my old battlestation for a G3258/H81M/8Gb of Ram combo from a guy on Craigslist, very happy with it so far, it's whisper quiet and stable at 4.3Ghz on stock cooler.

Oculus/HTC released their system requirements but I'm betting they're playing it safe for 1st gen to make sure their asses are covered, but that a substantially weaker system than a Haswell i5/GTX970 would still work just fine.

Pretty good build anon, like those other guys said you should probably get a locked CPU if you're going to keep that mobo, save yourself $50 while you're at it and get a 1-2Tb bulk storage HDD. Realistically no Skylake i5 is going to bottleneck your 390.

>>52215696

Anon the ASRock board is fine and all, but you dropped your SSD which you definitely need, and that 450W PSU is kind of pushing it for future expansion. You probably would be OK to run exactly what you have but I personally wouldn't be too comfortable about adding much more.

>>
>>52215842

if you HAD to pick between the two get the SSD now and add some el-cheapo hard drive whenever you can get it. No modern PC should be without SSD. 402 is the estimated wattage but you really should have at least 100W of headroom for future expansion IMO. your original EVGA 500W was very good. You won't be crossfiring your 380's but you could at least add another couple drives safely.

Assuming you're using win10, you won't really need more than 4 GB of ram unless you dabble in VMs. You won't be gaming or doing anything other than watching videos and shitposting, so you don't NEED an aftermarket cooler. Since you won't be generating much heat and thus won't need optimal airflow, I replaced the PSU with a cheaper, non modular one. And, again, I suggest a cheaper case.

I think you might be cutting it too close with the ram, especially since the difference between 2 GB and 4 GB of RAM is only 6 bucks.

The cheaper CPU you got there has integrated graphics, you can remove the GPU. With the savings of removing the GPU, you can afford the turbo nerd case you want, landing you almost exactly at $200. You're welcome.

Yeah, that was the plan. 4690K and 6600K end up being like $10 apart so I figured might as well go 6600K. Anyone want to give me any other thoughts on >>52210969?

Can anyone please recommend me a good 1151 board?

I'll use it for gaming, multimedia and want to OC.

Do these "gaming" boards suck or are they actually usable?
