Last year I lost 2 32GB usb3 sticks, all 8 out of a new pack of 8GB sticks for work, 2 other 8GB ones of my own, and I intentionally broke 3 because they were unreliable, and I didn't want anyone making the mistake of trying to use them.

I always buy them when school's beginning. Most recently Walmart was selling 16GB Sandisks for $5. I bought 6.
Lost more than I can count. I just buy about a half dozen at a time and throw them in a drawer. I don't keep anything important on them though.... Mostly OS install disks, drivers and recovery software.

use a benchmarking program, they're designed to do syncronous operations (aka, they don't use the system cache), since it's the only way to get the real speed of a device

They are the only drives that I have had that outright failed on me or did not work out of the box.
They are also cheap enough that you can buy them in bulk so it's not a big issue though.
