It all depends on what you're doing with the CPU. If you're just gaming go for the i5 because it's faster per core. However if you're doing stuff like streaming alongside the games or something that will be able to utilize a lot of cores go for the FX-8350.

Overclocked CPUs are loud, hot as hell (60C+), and draw power inefficiently. It's a huge trade-off. The money you use to cool the thing (and increase your electric bill) could be offset by a cooler/quiter/faster CPU.

I've had my my i7 920 running at 4Ghz, 1.3-something volts for about five years straight. No issue. Your CPU will be far, far obsolete by the time it is even close to physically breaking down, no matter how much you over clock it.

What in the actual fuck am I reading? This thread is pure cancer. The i5 is an overall amazing performing CPU. It keeps up with the 8350 in multithreaded tasks even though it's "only" 4 cores, its amazing in single thread, uses less power and chipset features far outclass AMDs. Intel's motherboard options are far better and are better quality. The only reason I would buy an 8350 is if you need to run multiple VMs at the same time, but in every other scenario the i5 is a better option.

You never posted what youre using it for so im guessing this is bait. If youre making/editing videos get the intel. I have a fx and its fine for me, not the one you listed though.
Cant really compare the two in the first place the intel is built on 22nm and the fx 32 nm. The intel will always be faster and use less heat because its smaller.

Regardless, it doesnt matter to me personally. I've had the top of line from both brands and the the difference is barely noticible unless you get off on that sort of the thing. As far as gaming goes intel has the edge but its a thin edge to me, it doesnt excite me that much. Im not running a program where if i doesnt finish in time the world will end.

Each of those chips has their power draw clearly defined in their specs. For that chart the 8350 really doesn't use much more power than a 4770k. Naturally though a 9590 is a pwoer sucking monster compared to the 4770k and the 3960x.

It has 8 threads and has more processing power than the i5, but only when all 8 threads are being utilised.
It can even compete with the i7 4770.
If you want something that works better now but won't matter in 2 years because you'll upgrade, the i5 4460 is better.
