I have an old PC with just 2gb of ram on it and XP installed. I plan to use it ocasionally for my work (online casinos, downloadable version). I doubt this box will be able to run the java apps efficiently if I put any new Windows on it. Also linux is not an option, most of these programs just won't work[nobody has configured Wine for them before].

Question is:: what precautions should I take to safely run WinXP in 2016? assuming I have the common sense to never download anything shady.

Hey /g/, can anyone help me out with a simple question? I just bought a 3 tb WD hard drive, and I already have 2 in my computer. Does it matter which data slot I plug my new hard drive in to? I have enough power connectors and Data transfer cables, I'm just not sure if I have to plug it into a specific one. The manual confused me more than anything else. Thanks in advance.

aesthetics are meaningless and there's still tons of room in the budget
>>
Aight, so BASICALLY, either all browsers are shit and I need to kill myself, or I'm experiencing some weird hardware issue. Or maybe OS, but Win8 isn't THAT unstable.
I've tried both Firefox and Chrome for months, and both have CRIPPILING problems for me. For Firefox, it's a MASSIVE memory leak that is dependent on the number of tabs I open. I open 12 tabs, close them, and voila, 800mb of memory usage with nothing open.
Chrome is a bit different. Performance is great, but randomly (I think it has something to do with moving windows or something, not sure), Chrome freezes, then DWM freezes, then every single program + mouse freezes, and it just sits there like that for a good two and a half minutes before everything snaps back to working again.
So, if you know of what kind of hardware/software issue this is, let me know. If these kinds of glitches are documented, and the browsers are just shit, then can anybody send me any recommendations?

You do NOT need 500gb of ssd storage,if you're storing data on it you're a retard.Granted you included a 1tb drive,it seems you know you dont need anything but your os on an ssd.Hell you could get a 60gb if you wanted, but you'd be really cutting it close with what you can install
If you want to run anything else in the background while you game, you sure do.Not to mention the caching that is done by the games to make playing the game smoother(who'd a thunk)

Already have a couple of 6tb drives from previous computers, no need to buy another for mass storage.
Single GTX980 is there with the intention of getting an additional one in a couple of weeks and setting up SLI.

With that in mind, I should probably get a full tower case...

That's even more pointless, do you even have a 4k display? Let alone a G-sync one

Because you can get a 4k IPS free-sync display for around $500 last I checked, though a 40" 4k display is where it's at for productivity

If you're disconnecting from a dota match,i think that should be your point of concern. Not placebo ssd

being able to load back into a game of dota quicker is pretty major given how much time is lost if the game isn't being paused

also for Civ V it's a good deal of time, nearly 30 seconds here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSc0obSQREU

and in addition don't use the extra storage for games then, store more important data on it that basically won't be lost until the drive dies

I use Plex to stream video from the second floor of a house, down to a PS3 in the basement. It works fine most of the time, but videos with a larger filesize and 1080p stuff causes slowdown.

The PS3 picks up the wifi well enough down there, there isn't anywhere in the house it can't reach. It's just the speed of the modem isn't all that hot. It's a cheapo $30 modem, so that's not a surprise. But I'm in the market for a new one, and I've got a few I'm considering.

But but my question is about Range Extenders. Would I be able to boost the speed of the WiFi for video streaming in the basement with a Range Extender? Or would it not help.

I have a Logitech G400 and think it might be dying on me. My cursor has been temporarily freezing up on me. The duration and frequency seem to depend on what I'm doing. It usually happens and lasts the longest when I'm playing muh gayms, but it occasionally happens while I'm on 4chan or whatever. When it freezes, I'm still able to type (or move if I'm playing a game); the cursor just freezes for anywhere between 1 - 4 seconds. I plugged in a spare shit-tier mouse and the problem went away, so it's definitely something to do with the G400. What I want to figure out is whether the mouse itself is going to shit, or if it could possibly be something software-related. I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Any suggestions?
