Ultra wide 1440p vs 4K?

Hello /g/ I just dumped £1200 on a new monitor and card to enter the realm of ultrawide emersion in gaming.

I was thinking about 4k but the ultrawide just appealed to me more

Did I make the correct decision?

I bought an Acer 34” 3440x1440 75hz Freesync monitor and a Asus R9 Fury Strix to power it
>>
You should have made this thread before you bought stuff. This entire thread will be useless to you now. Enjoy your fov issues.

2k is a major step up from fullhd so you done well.

just make sure your monitor doesn't have any flaws which would make you suffer for the next 4 years atleast

>>52192437
it's better than a fucking advice thread you dumb fuck
>>
>>52192437

Fov issues? that will be mostly the games and not the hardware right?

Advice threads are a dime a dozen

also, don't listen to this guy.

many games have their own fov settings which can be customised.

i use a 29" 21:9 and for me a slightly above average field of view setting always feels natural for me. it's maybe takes like 2 minutes of your time if you really care about it. most games feel natural enough though
>>
>>52192399
I would have gone for the G-sync version, with a GTX980 overclocking that card will get to the same performance as a R9Fury

>>52192471

he bought it already, a bit late for advice methinks
>>
>>52192453
> implying this isn't a thinly veiled advice thread
> implying anything has actually been purchased yet.

lol I do this all the time and you nerds always fall for it.

4k at 60hz is a meme compared to 2k 21:9 and freesync AND 75hz + ips

the only advantage of the 4k panel is much more realistic images due to even less aliasing on the picture but this was the advantage.

10bit HDR panels are going to rule the future anyway so 4k will die slowly
>>
>>52192493

Thanks man,

How's 21:9 at 1080p any way is the pixel density a bit low?
>>
>>52192507
wow you're such a prankster anon
>>
>>52192399
Should have got 32" 4k.

1440 is a meme. 4k is here, with freesync and ips, and all games can be run easily with today's hardware.

In some games you may have to go from ultra to high.
>>
>>52192517

U think 60hx to 75hx is actually noticeable?

I've heard a lot of people say its like night and day. I've never gamed above 60hz so I'm interested to find out
>>
>>52192527
the pixel density is above the 24" fullhd 144hz panel i owned before due to the fact that it is 1cm less wide but 2560 to the sides.

i bought it mainly for the price/performance ratio and it is just a plus that is features freesync aswell.
>>
>>52192399
How much did you pay for each? That's like £1400 worth of stuff, so you got a good deal at least.

That said you paid a stupid amount extra for a monitor with a lower resolution and a slightly higher refresh rate.
>>
>>52192557
It's snake oil.

There is a reason why no tech companies mention or advertise 1440p outside of meme monitor companies.
>>
>>52192547
>1440 is a meme. 4k is here
You can play games at 1440 with high/ultra settings and get 60fps. Not so with 4k, even with SLI in some cases.
>>
>>52192557
yes, 60 to 75hz is very very noticable. i owned a 144hz monitor before and you start to have seemless image around 90 fps.. i could instantly feel how the hdmi connection is used prior the DP 1.2a cable how 60hz affected the framerate of everything, even if i also had a latency increase of 9ms with the new ips display and was glad that 75hz was forgiving enough in every scenario. freesync though is a different story, at maximum settings gta 5 with 43 fps feels so fucking smooth. even on my 144hz panel it never felt that smooth.

also why oculus rift will feature 90hz oled panels.
>>
>>52192560

I don't get it how can a 29" monitor have higher pixel density than a 24" when they are both 1080p?

is it the same height?
>>
>>52192399
I have that monitor, and you made the right decision because it's fucking amazing, but holy shitballs you britbongs get fucked hard if you had to pay £1200. I paid around $850 for it.
>>
>>52192627
The only exception would be witcher 3.

Wew lad.
>>
>>52192635
that's what i meant.

it's 0,8cm less in height with 29" compared to a 24" 16:9.

a 34" 21:9 measures to a 27" 16:9 panel in height

Relevant to the thread, got an Asus mg279q for christmas but it had one dead pixel and bad light bleed so I returned it (pic related).
The new one will be there in 5 days.
>>
>>52192613

£750 For the monitor
£440 for the r9 Fury
>>
>>52192672

Is that actually light bleed or just IPS glow?
>>
>>52192631

what do you have at the moment?

>>52192661

Ah I get ya

not this guy but,
cameras are a pretty bad way to show lightbleed because of the narrow angle it looks at so it is not that apparent but you can see halos on the edges pretty good

>>52192731
pic related
>>
>>52192760
oh by the way, EDID hacks allow the freesync range to go down to 32hz so the monitor always can switch to the Low Framerate Compensation feature if it needs to
>>
>>52192760

Nice it's only £280 in the UK

what is the response rate?
>>
>>52192806
9-13ms, it's just a little bit noticable if you compare it side by side with 1ms tn but you will adjust to it within days and it seems normal again

it didn't affect my skill in league of legends though
