Just installed a freshly wall mounted 40" LED tv in my bedroom. Currently deciding whether to purchase a Roku streaming stick or Amazon Fire Stick. They both seem nearly identical, and currently the Roku is selling for the same price, so that isn't a factor.

Not sure if I'm putting a cable box up there, but I believe I can use my cable subscription for both to receive certain on demand channels.

Anyone own either? Preferences on interface, wifi connection issues/range? Any and all advice will be appreciated /g/entoomen.

I have the Roku box 3 it works great I use it for Netflix HBO GO in my bedroom got a nice little remote ton of channels even a free porn tube one(nowhereporn) if that's what you're interested in I live in a three story house router in the basement Roku box on 3rd floor no connectivity issues always works like it's supposed to no experience with the Amazon product use it every night no issues.

Get the fire stick and install Kodi on it with 3rd party add-ons.

2nd this, plus you get prime video if that's your thing.

I am a prime subscriber (quite frankly, if you buy like 4 things online a year, its ridiculous not to be), along with Netflix, and I think my cable subscription gives me HBO on demand.

Now question:
How far is your router from the receiver? Mine's in the basement, TV is on second floor of house. Should I be concerned with the Fire's ability to pick up the signal? I see it comes with some kind of HDMI extender that is supposed to help.

So does Kodi take over the entire OS basically?

Thanks for your suggestions so far guys

I am by no means a 1337 hax0r like yourself, but I also live with my tech illiterate girlfriend who enjoys watching her shows on the netflix, and needs something simple to operate, (the Wii is a struggle sometimes). Any alternatives to the two options I was considering would be greatly appreciated.

My apologies sir, I pray to the almighty RMS for forgiveness.

Am I using this board incorrectly? Is asking which car to buy on /o/ a normalfag problem? Is asking which gun to purchase on /k/ only what normalfags do? These both typically use proprietary information in their design and construction, and by no means establishes the OPs technological knowledge of either subject.

But yeah, buying stuff is such a "normalfag's" problem. Nothing you ever have to deal with on a day to day basis.

My bad, it has been about two years since I've been on /g/, but I never thought asking advice on tech purchases would have become against the rules??

Again sorry to waste your guys time

I think you can set it to auto boot, or you can install some link/shortcut app so it shows up in the normal app launcher (sideloaded apps don't show up by default).
>>
>>52161396
They're both completely useless shit.

if you autoboot kodi you can still launch android apps from the program area in kodi

>buying a device so you can buy streaming services on that device
Is there any point in these sticks if you don't want to pay monthly subscription fees to the streaming companies?

The Fire Stick does everything the Roku does but you can install things like Kodi on the Fire Stick. That's why I returned my Roku and went with the Fire Stick.
