Should I get a GTX 970 nvidia card or a Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB Video Card? I heard NVIDIA is better because developers optimize it to run better in terms of gameplay.
I need to achieve at least 60fps on GTA V ultra and needs to last me like 2 years.

Sites I found to compare prices:

GTX 970: https://jet.com/product/detail/d7440b06d2b04858b68f32f4b1876b53?jcmp=pla:ggl:cwin_electronics_a1:electronics_accessories_computer_components_io_cards_adapters_a1_other:na:na:na:na:na:2&code=PLA15&k_clickid=88be12d1-5329-4cd5-a9d3-8a6235e7829a&gclid=Cj0KEQiA-4i0BRCaudDcrrnDi6kBEiQAZSh5f8Rco1Xl2OQ0sTBwMCMKe5tlF7N2TdVcwMjvqH-ARqgaAmW08P8HAQ
Price: $276 with 15% off

R9: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvr939wf28gd

Price: 293 (20 dollar mail in rebate included).

Depends. Is budget an issue?

If so, go 390

Do you need 8 gb of VRAM?

Go 390

Is budget not an issue and you prefer generally better optimization, drivers, and support?

Go 970
>>
>>52142632
As >>52143000 demonstrates either should work for 1080 in GTA V. I have a slight bias towards nVidia as it tends to give less problems (inb4 AMD fanbois claim Nvidia pays to cause problems for AMD cards) with drivers and compatibility than AMD cards.

R9 390 user here, no drivers is 200% meme, max temperature at full load is around 80*c and don`t pick msi version of 390 because i say so. Link to my 3DMark if you`re intrested: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/6933815
>>
>>52143164
Why not the msi card? Its the only one that seems like it'll fit in my case.
>>
>>52143263
I discovered while overclocking that for some reason it was locked at 1100 Mhz for gpu and 1500 for memmory but fixed the issue. But if you`re not into overclocking that much it will be your best gaming buddy for long years
>>
>I need to achieve at least 60fps on GTA V ultra and needs to last me like 2 years.

save your money and get a 980 ti, the 970 is too weak for what you are asking
>>
>>52143263
Go for it. Best cooling aside from Sapphire. Don't go with ASUS, no matter what you're thinking.
>>
>>52142632
What's the GPU below the nano? It's so fucking sexy
>>
>>52143000
I made this pic, these benchmarks were made as soon as the 380/390 cards were released, I'm certain that they run thing even better now
>>
>>52142632
what kind of monitor would you need to make the graphics card worth it?
>>
I had an old tube monitor and it was 1000 x better then any lcd i've had
>>
>>52143263
I have a MSI 390x and the card is a beast, I don't know where you live but here in Brazil it can get to 80~82C under heavy load (GTA V specially), though I heard it is voltage overclocked from factory. Maybe the Sapphire model is a bit cooler if that's a concern for you.

I got this last year and now it seems kinda pointlless
>>
>>52146804
Actually if budget is not an issue why not go for a Fury/980ti?
>>
I was just reading about how none of the led monitors are very good
they pushed the refresh rate like they did for hdtv, but most are still shit

I had one like this, it was fucking unbelievable with no graphics card compared to whats around now
if you can get your hands on one grab it, you'll see what I mean
>>
I have a acer p237hl
it sucks
>>
>>52142632
a waste of money if your monitor can't do much with it
>>
nothing from all the experts here?
I was thinking about buying a hdtv

>>52142632
can you afford a hdtv too?
>>
oh yeah, these >>52146977
might set you back $5-10 bucks so look for a big one
>>
>>52146823
Poorcucks thats why
>>
i just ordered a 380x for 170 bucks 40 - 60fps @1080p maxed that's good enough for me

fuck paying out the ass for 1440p the gtx 970 is grossly overpriced right now its clear nvidia is rigging the market
>>
>>52147599
it doesn't even mater if you don't have a monitor that can use it
>>
>>52143000

just to add.

all amd cards perform roughly 5-10% better every year.

but on the other hand, all current nvidia cards overclock so good that they get about 30% increase in performance with ease.

the bad thing is tho that the 970 sucks for 1440p/4k. and the 980 is stupid since 980ti is just a bit more expensive.

so yeah get a 390.
>>
$276 for SC ACX2.0+ is unbeatable

If you want 1440p gaming the 390 will beat it by a little at the premium of using more power.
>>
Isn't the Gigabyte G1 390 recommended?
>>
if you have on board video , that'll be fine until you can get something thats worth buying your graphics card for
>>
I asked yesterday but want a 2nd opinion

290 vs 390, is the extra $150 worth it?
>290 for $220 (used)
>390 for $350 (bnib though)
>>
>>52142632
what you got for onboard graphics?
>>
>>52147856
Absolutely not, only go Sapphire or MSI for the 300 series
>>
>>52146684
Looks like the XFX 360 or 370, all their coolers look hot
>>
>>52147911
will you be doing 1440p?
>>
>>52148403
not even, 1080p lmao
>>
>>52142632
Fuck off
>>
>>52148479

>>

might actually work on a shitty monitor

>80*C

I underclocked my MSI R9 390 from 1000 to 950 MHz and it runs Fallout 4 on Ultra at 45-ishC

Did 50 Mhz really make that much of a difference?
>>
>>52148953
whoa I might get this instead of 750Ti for a 1280x1024 setup
>>
don't be a fag. max out what your shitty board CAN do
