I'm about to OC this FX-6300 on a stock fan and see if I can do any better.

And CPU-Z. This is running at 4.4GHz, though I can get her to benchmark at 4.9GHz.

Then... What is that?

Intel. $305 into motherboard and CPU with a new build.
>>
>>52132908
Not bad at all, man. What are you using to cool it? I've been looking at the Hyper 212 Evo but I don't know if its gonna be worth it.
We do have a pretty similar build, you're better off if you ever decide to run at a higher resolution than 1080p.

>order a 4790k because I found a deal on it for $250

>wanted to go skylake since I could afford it initially, but shortages caused prices to skyrocket insanely

>not even a week after ordering, news comes that consumer/gaming boards for Xeons are coming out

>since all skylake chips are OCable now, could've grabbed an E3-1230 V5 for the same price as the 4790k, and one of these new boards

>could've had OCed 6700k performance for the same money I'm spending on this 4790k setup
>>
>>52132942
Yes, but what particular CPU is it? An i7 isn't that weak single core is it? Idk. I'm a poorfag.

You would have needed an expensive as fuck motherboard for the Xeon. That's where Intel are stinging people again.
>>
>>52132956
Not as shitty as your predicament but I bought DDR3 memory a few months before Skylake and now the shit has pretty much halved in price.

>>52132972
So 1 of those is practically an FX-6300? Are they cheaper than the FX-6300? I mean I'm aware that you can use two so its technically better but is it cost effective as well?
>>
>>52132943
I'm using a Phanteks PH-TC12DX. It's extremely quiet and temps barely reach 75c under most loads.

>>52132986
ASRock and Asus are releasing very cheap "gaming" Xeon boards, check them out.

This 980ti really seems to OC nicely, 1550 core and 8220 Mem with +27mV and 110% target. Might have to try a custom BIOS or something some day.
>>
>>52133005
I paid $195 for my X8DAi, $54 for the first CPU, and $56 for the second CPU.
>>
>>52133013
Any price on them yet?

It's also an obvious money grab from Intel, by setting the RRP on i7s at $400.

>>
>>52133005

It's an old quad core Westmere chip, the series right before Sandy Bridge. The CPU in >>52132956 is a 6-core from the same series.

In this day and age they're dirt cheap. The X5672 is ~$60 and the X5650 fluctuates from $65 to $80. The problem is that X58 boards are getting more and more rare and costly.

The average price you'd pay for a Westmere Xeon is the price you'd pay for an AM3+ board, and the price you'd pay for an FX 8-core chip is the price you'd pay for an X58 board.

The 6-core variants are an excellent option if you can find an X58 for a decent price though. They're consistently faster than AMD's offerings while being cheaper than modern Intel chips. In some games and workloads they're on par with Ivy and even some Haswell i7s.

>>52133049

The MSRP is $350, but there's been a retarded shortage that has driven prices for K chips sky high. Some places are selling i7s for $500 or even $700.

I feel like my CPU score is complete shit.
>>
>>52133137

The 4790k is only like 300 points higher in single threaded so you're not that far off. And since you're using an i5 you dont have hyperthreading to boost that multithread score.

If your pc is mostly for vidya you're perfectly fine though.

I honestly expected someone to beat my just shy of five year old CPUs in the multi threaded bench.
Surely some later Intel 6 core i7s should beat them with ease, especially considering I can't OC with this board.

I'm quite fond of the single threaded score given the supposed enormous gap between Intel and AMD.

>>
>>52135112

So? The 6700k is one of intel's latest and greatest and costs nearly three times what the 8320e does. My chip, mobo and cooler together cost less than what the 6700k does on its own.
>>
>>52135141
If you want to argue price to multi threaded performance, my Xeons beat your AMD by a much larger margin than you beat the i7, at a lower price, and at only 3.2GHz. And they're old.

FX processors lack temperature sensor by themselves, temperatures are calculated by an algorithm with clock, voltage and probably ambient temperature with the ITF sensor on the motherboard. Not acurate at all.

Hey, really like your system and shows that you've put some thought into it. I'm about to go the same way, but I want to oc. Can't find shit about how broadwell overclocks. Have you tried it yet?

The review on computerbase doesn't help much either. No benchmarks with oc. The increase from 100w to 170w under load is pretty heavy though...
>>
>>52142729
Nothing! I use it to programming and shitpost
>>
>>52142731
Went from 3.10GHz stock to 3.80GHz without having to play around with my voltage, everything above became unstable though. I wanted to get to the magic 4, but my temps just got too high with more volt.

I just stuck with 3.8 now because it's a Mini-ITX system after all. With a better cooling system 4 shouldn't be too much of a problem I guess.

But we're talking about Heatwell here after all, so prepare for some unpleasant temps.
