Why did you let this happen /g/?

And now you're on your way to kill Ubuntu by promoting Linux Mint as well. Which means Debian won't have any productive contributors anymore, besides Microsoft of course.

Will the year of the Linux desktop ever happen? It has never been closer than this and it bombed.

Gaben is also a hypocrite

Source 2 is also shit, literally all Valve does now is sell other people's games. We'll see how their SteamVR turns out heh.

how does it feel to be the cancer that is preventing Linux to gain momentum?

and SteamOS is not desktop OS

>gets gaming companies and hardware manufacturers to support Linux

How many? 4 companies that make AAA games and 5 hardware manufacturers?
Whole SteamOS living room project was copypasta from Android.
Whole model relies on fuckhueg selection of models to choose from. And Android achieved that. It took some time, yes, but Android was never seen as declining or even forgotten.
Valve has what, small selection of machines that cost more than consoles, and normalfags don't see why those would be worth their price.

Valve needs to extend choice of hardware if they want whole thing to take off.
Now everyone politely send mail to [email protected] in which you request that Valve dedicates more resources to SteamOS development and making Linux good gaming platform.

Steam OS would be great if it allowed Debian repos without conflicts and fuckups. I might as well just install Debian and start from scratch. Can't even get playonlinuc loaded without some weird fucking unmet dependency errors. I might just go full Windows 7.

Debian is comparable to XP and Ubuntu is the Windows 7 equivalent. Obviously older version with outdated packages will give you shit.

Ubuntu flavors have no such issues. Wine 1.7/1.8 have improved the system. The previous bug where you could not alt+tab out of league is gone now, it works with any compositor flawlessly.

The funny thing is that my GPU temps are close to 75C on Windows and Linux only around 58C during games, not sure why.

Dota 2 Reborn runs natively on Steam without using Wine. Performance is pretty good on Ubuntu m9. I got San Andreas, Warcraft 3 and Diablo II also working without any issues.

Linux's problems go far beyond a lack of user base.

The whole thing is such a patched together mess with API's changing day and night that it's almost impossible to develop for.

There is no natural growth in Linux applications. Every application it has was ported from other systems.

The retarded bait.
Desktop linux has always been minimal
The same gnu/linux has always been the main server and supercomputer OS though.

The only change the last 5-10 years, is that android/linux is dominating the smartphone market, a bigger market than PCs.

Linux always had potential, it just needed refinement. The focus shifted too much towards servers which is okay but Linus always envisioned it to be an easy to use desktop OS.

League has a limited amount of IP/XP bonuses per day which refreshes after 21 hours to discourage people from playing too much.

In the end, people with no purpose in life and living off parents can afford to waste their productive time.

>>52123289
And it's been fully usable for most things for a long time, the only hole I see is video editing. The problem is always software support.

Linux might actually have a big chance if ARM keeps improving while x86 doesn't, since windows doesn't have it's one advantage (software) on arm.

Sure you can do that. Few do though, most people only see it as a training ground to learn how to play. A lot of it is the fact that the bots in leauge are so easy it's just a contest who can farm the most kills.

If you just want to play against bots there's much better games, like diablo or torchlight.

So in the end is there any advantage to having steamos installed versus just having a standard Linux distro with steam OS shell or whatever? Side question what further advantage does any of that have over just having windows 7 installed with big picture mode in steam? Far as I can tell I get more support in windows.
