What is the actual argument against VLC?
The icon is shit.

It's a traffic cone m8, are you against safe traffic?
French Software

it used the 16-235 color profile by default which results in pic related
0-255 is default color space for computer monitors, so by using VLC without disabling the YUV-RBG converter in settings will make your movie look like pic related
it has been like this since i first started using VLC media player since like 8 years ago

Get fucked, you cunt.

This and shitty filters.
>Please wait while the font cache is being rebuilt

it was also the last player to support dxva, still has problems seeking...

contrarianism

MPC-HC better in every way. Better video reproduction, better colors/contrast, better hardware acceleration.
>>52119014
implying windows?
I swore by vlc for the longest time.
Then it started giving my that grey distortion bullshit 5-6 times every time I watched HD films.
Switched to MPC and I could not be more satisfied with it. Great program and easy to use.

Autism
VLC is great and people who are against it use arguments that haven't been true for many years.
>>52119614
yeah, using the incorrect luminescence level for computer monitors is no big deal.
>>52119614
>>52119036
The grey glitch thing and the font cache is a real problem and I've been using it for a long time anon.
>>52119651
Is it possible to configure VLC to not suck at playing video?
>>52119656
>The grey glitch thing
Haven't had that for years.
>the font cache
Yeah having to wait for a few seconds once after installing is really hardcore bad.
>>52119593
That held me back for awhile too, but it is super easy to use.
Double click the screen to go full screen is still a thing. Also you can hide/show all the borders/information bars etc. if you want.
I just run with no border and show only the play/pause/next buttons. Then you can right click the screen and it brings up all the options for subtitles, menus, and shit like that.
I actually prefer it now. Plus it never does that weird distortion thing so it's got that going on too.

>autism
i haven't used vlc regularly since 2006. been using mpc since it first came out and have been really happy with it. does vlc still shit itself when it comes to subtitles and seeking within a video that is displaying subs? also, wasn't vlc originally just for streaming? outside of that, it's somewhat expected to be kinda sucky, isn't it?
>>52119695
it's not autism when it outputs blacks as grey ffs.
>>52119014

I was satisfied with VLC and didn't care for all the threads on /g/ for a long time, but at some point I got sick of waiting for the font cache thing that happened every so often. Then I put it next to some other players and saw how shitty the colors were with my own eyes.
If you're happy with VLC, go ahead and use it, but installing MPC-HC when setting up a new computer is exactly the same amount of work and grants you a better player.
>>52119748
>the font cache thing that happened every so often
I really don't know what you're watching, but it happens just once after installing for me and most of the stuff I watch is softsubbed.
>>52119765
A few times of those were probably either after an update or watching something at a friend's house on his laptop. Still, zero issues whatsoever on MPC-HC.
>>52119014
it uses the default color profile that your graphics drivers dictate.
if you're using AMD like you should, this is set to 0-255 by default
if you're using nvidia like a fucking pleb, this is set to 16-235 by default
>>52118979
true.
I still use it though, but it would be so good if they would redesign the UI to look less shitty
