it is true that times has changes, computers back in the day, or activities in a computer specifically, were more limited due internet connection. I remember having access to my own computer at age of 10 but I used it mainly for gaming and school purposes, internet sucked and the website I ever visited were Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Now internet is waaay more open and your son will have more opportunities to navigate through porn and shit.

Buy him a computer when he can successfully grow a crop of vegetables and fruits that can save your family the money for said computer. Thats what my parents did. I got my computer when I was 11.
He needs to work for it, but he should build a desktop, install linux on it, and get to know his way around it pretty well.

I got my first computer (C64) around 11-12 and think that was too early. It replaced everything in my life. Friends, hobbies, girls, nothing mattered anymore, I just stayed home all day every day playing games. Helped a lot with learning English though because my uncle gave me a bunch of text adventures and a dictionary (kek). Thank god I started smoking weed with 16, otherwise I would have never had any reason to socialize with others.

K12 has an actual "homeschooling" program unlike their more popular teacher-led program. We have that plus a shitload of online programs for them to learn from. I give them math, English, science, and music instruction because those are my strengths, the wife visual arts, social studies, and history. All three of them are also learning a second language (the two youngest Japanese, the oldest Mandarin Chinese) and that instruction is online as well.
