No, not at all. They've gutted Nautilus which was the backbone of GNOME 2 so it will never really be the same. It also still uses the same shitty Window Manager as GNOME 3 along with all of its performance issues. Just use MATE or GNOME 2 (CentOS/RHEL 6 still has it and provides support and updates)

I've been on Mate since its beginning. As long as it stays maintained I guess there's no real problem, though I wish it had the same level of developer backing as Gnome since it is objectively the best desktop environment.
