The unicycle versions are much better for commuting but no one in the west knows about them yet. I often ride my unicycle to the shops a few KM away. You can maintain a similar speed to running even up hills, then I just put it in my backpack when I get there. You could run instead but running up a 3km hill with 10kg in your backpack is pretty heavy exertion you will sweat so much you need a shower after doing that.
