Off-white or Grey

Which one would I buy? Also: where the fuck would you even get Topre key caps?
>>
>>52072193
Leopold 660M and 660C

I imported them for big dolla. You dont have much of a choice to be honest. Theres only a limited amount of brands that are being sold in Europe. Leopold and most Topre brands are part of that select ground. Can find a Realforce here and there, though.
>>
>>52072230
>where the fuck would you even get Topre key caps
Not a whole lot of choices.
I think there's a few official Topre keysets but that's pretty much all.

"The Filco feels cheap. It pales compared to the quality of a Ducky Shine 2. Anyone stating different is just being a Filco fanboy."

Is this guy right?
>>
>>52072230
The white one is real nice. There was going to be a a topre keycap massdrop, but they picked the ugliest possible set and told people they had to buy it or there wouldn't be any more.
>>
>>52072272
>The white one is real nice
I agree but I think thats only because it has differently colored keycaps. The grey one looks a bit boring due to being monochrome but the base looks better. Tough one...
>>
Can corsair be trusted with quality control? I've bought a few of their products before, never a keyboard, and they all broke within a month. I like the look and the features of their K70 but I don't want to spend as much if I can get practically the same things from an Azio mgk1. Not too into customisation nor am I picky on key switch type (hence kailh alternative), but I would also like to save money if possible. help pls and ty

Buy both, swap the caps from the white into the black one, sell the white body with grey caps for $10 off retail on eBay as a "custom topre"

>>52072506
Yes, and the other half hates them and wants them to go away since they aren't actually interested in technology
>>
>>52072496
That's an interesting keyboard. What is it?

The arrow key cluster reminds me a bit of the apple tkl keyboards.
>>
>>52072462

Why do people post pictures of a keyboard without saying what it is?

>>52072535

See? If anyone cares, it leads to the obvious "what is it?" question. Just say what it is in the original post!
>>
>>52072506
It has nothing to do with 'being a gamer'. I play video games and dont even want myself to be associated with that term. Point is that 'gamer products' are fucking junk almost all the time, especially headphones and peripherals. To answer your question: no, you cant trust companies that make 'gaming peripherals'.
>>
>>52072483
To be fair I get maybe 10 hours of gayming in a semester. I like the sound of blue switches and I want it to last, that's it. Unless you can point me into the direction of a cheap keyboard with good tactile feedback, full numpad and home keys, and media buttons, these seem like the easier choice to me.
>>
>>52072586
>To be fair I get maybe 10 hours of gayming in a semester.
So, what do you spend your free time on?
>>
Blue or Brown switches, which is better for developers?
>>
>>52072733
Homework and studying mostly. Other than that, assorted things that don't require too much of a commitment to time. Mostly at my desk
>>
>>52072799
I live people like you. Basically implying that you sleep for 6 hours and study for 18 hours. Why do you blatantly lie on the internet? Why not just tell the truth?

>>
>>52072849
So, you have some severe mental disability, right? Unless of course you study law, which probably isnt the case. Studying more than ~10 hours a day is probably the dumbest shit you can do. It also is proof that youre not fit to attend university. Thats something one does for the last 2-3 weeks prior to exams, but not for an entire semester.

Now, what is it youre actually studying
>in before engineering
>>
>>52072920
Well I'm a Biochem major, so I have two lab classes every semester, meaning 3 additional hours of class per lab a week for 1 credit hour. It's a lot more time consuming than it seems. And I have a different definition of studying than what you might think. I dont go through the text and memorize the words in bold, I go through and try to understand shit.
>>
>>52072987
So to my original question, is corsair a trusted manufacturer of mechanical keyboards?
>>
>>52072427
>mechanical keyboard
>gaymen
>>
>>52073019
No, you pay more than other brands for worse keyboards and worse QC.
>>
>>52072987
>I dont go through the text and memorize the words in bold, I go through and try to understand shit.
So basically like everyone who doesnt major in womens studies.

Thats not a good reason to piss away all your time studying, when university is way more about finding yourself and trying out things. Maybe even working on the side. From what I have read it seems that you simply chose a field youre too stupid for. Or your learning methods are ridiculously inefficient.

There isnt a single field that requires students to burn 80+ hours a week on studying. Apart from Law school, but thats only because of all the reading and writing you have to do.
>>
>>52073068
I don't go to a top 10, there's a lot more memorisation than you'd expect here. And they also don't teach as well as you'd expect so you have to work harder for a good grade
>>
>>52072462
The Keycool 84 is the same thing with a standard spacebar and the right CTRL FN ALT all 1u. Much easier to get caps for.
>>
>>52073049
Ty
>>
>>52073103
Not him but if you already have to burn so much time on the Biochem undergrad degree then you will fail miserably. Simply because Biochem is worthless unless you got at least a M.Sc, preferably a PhD, though. And these two will fucking kill you if you already struggle like this for the Bachelors degree.
>>
>>52073164
I'm getting A's so I would wager to say I'm not struggling
>>
>>52073199
If you have to burn all your time and forget what life is about then I would go as far as claim that you are struggling. College isnt really about grades. Its way more about connections, partially job experience etc. That A wont save you if the competition has job experience and a B+.

Many companies complain about graduates being too generic. Everybody is the same, none of them are individual human beings that stand out, be it in a positive or negative way. I mean, if youre happy living like this then keep doing so. Just dont be surprised if you end up without a job because all you ever did was study, but missed out on developing a personality or gaining actual job experience.
>>
>>52073282
First of all, I wouldn't put so much time into my studies if I didn't love it. No sane person would do that. College gives me the structure I need. And second, I get research experience done during light semesters. And I'm out. Thx for the advice guise. 10/10 :^)

i like it, fits my hand pretty well. i don't have to curl my pinky finger like i used to on my old logitech.
>>
>>52073932
I've always had issues finding comfortable mice, I have very large hands and I like to palm grip. Most mice make it look like I'm controlling the PC magically by sliding my hand around on a mousepad.
>>
>>52073797
Do Tai hao include extra modifiers? I use Fn for menu and caps lock on my v60.
>>
>>52072535
It's a KBT Race II. I turned the thumb-actuated keys over, because it does actually make it easier and more comfortable to use them that way, and flipped the whole top row to bring them closer to homerow. I also turned shift and ctrl (capslock) over, because they're easier to press with the pinky like that. May end up rebinding the right alt and ctrl to ~ and |, but for now I'm happy except for the wobble problem.

Mine's backlit but if i have to replace it ever, I'll probably get a more plain one. They're kinda nice and they're fun to play with, but not really worth paying for. That said some people ITT have a shitload of disposable cash and/or computers are their main hobby, so extra spending is justified.

This general, just like 4chan as a whole, has divisive opinions. I think the only (high traffic) board I've ever seen agree on anything is /pol/ which tells you a lot.

>>
>>52077502
Sorry for the late response anon. I won't say it's great, but it's definitely better than just alright. I've used it for 4.5 years now and it's just now starting to show signs of wear (scratchy pots, mostly. And I'm scared the usb port is about to break)

Line 6's drivers are shit though. About half the time when I install new drivers for anything, or when there's a Windows update, I have to run "sfc /scannow" from command prompt then restart to fix the drivers, or else it lags in and out and pops and becomes totally unusable. Happens on both Windows 7 and 8.1. I haven't switched to 10 because line 6 haven't updated the drivers yet.

For recording guitar and other instruments though, it's great. I haven't had any latency problems running it in a DAW and there's surprisingly not much noise at all in the signal. Pod farm is shit, but using it for DI tracking and revamping through VSTs is pretty great.
>>
>>52079630
Clarification of the last sentence: by "it" I mean the UX2, not pod farm. I don't use pod farm at all.

https://d2qmzng4l690lq.cloudfront.net/resizer/1500x1000/r/MD-3170_20140730102516_f6db703e5a91e1e4.jpg

Is there any way I could fix this?

Desolder one of the non-working switches and swap it with a working one.
Then, if that doesn't change anything, the PCB is fucked.
If the working key is now non-working and vice-versa, then it was the switch that was bad and you can just buy some new switches.

Who would have thought I would prefer the Chicony KB-5181 with MX Blues I found in my grandparents attic more than the Zowie Celeritas with MX Browns that I bought a few months ago.

Also a question, do any of you have experience with painting keyboards? I know I can whiten it with hydrogen peroxide and a UV light, but I want it to be pure white and still have the key markings visible, so spray painting over it, or at least over the keys is not an option as far as I know.

Yeah I wish I knew the browns would feel like shit to me, but you can't get a tester in my country and the only keyboard that you can physically test that is a mechanical is some razer one, The only store that sells mech keyboards is an online one, and I just went with the online reviews and recommendations. Wish I knew what they had in the attic before I bought it, also I think my uncle has an IBM with buckling springs stashed somewhere, said he will look after I told him the value.

Hi,

I recently got about $150-170 for Christmas. And I was looking to buy a new keyboard.
My current keyboard is a cheap Quickfire Pro from CMStorm, the reds disgust me, they became mushy after a year. So I was wondering if anyone could help me pick a keyboard in my price range. Here are a few preferences

Keycaps - Could be blank for all I care, actually I'd prefer them to be blank but it's not a make or break kind of preference.

Switch - I'd like Browns or something like Browns, I read through the Buyers Guide, I'm not quite sure what the difference between all the brands is but I'd just like something like the browns.

LEDs - It'd be nice to have some blue LEDs since my computer is blue but not a must.

Design - Minimalist preferably.

pls help. i've been going through amazon for keyboards and I'm not seeing anything to my liking. if you guys need some help with buying headphones come over to /hpg/ i'd be glad to share my knowledge

I guess it depends on how much he wants to colour-coordinate his peripherals. LEDs aside, if he has everything white or black he might prefer that the case of the keyboard be the same; in such a case, you might be better off with the Strafe.

Its white furniture in a black room so it reflects the lights. Its actually pretty cool.

Problems being I've heard there are a number of issues with Corsair.

Non-standard keycaps we can live with since they aren't likely getting changed out anyway unless they just wear out.

RGBs being washed out is an issue.
LEDs burning out is also an issue.

I've heard the 2016 model fixes this, but I guess its too early to tell?
>>
>>52090400
The issues tend be more specific. The LEDs were dying often on certain unicolour LED models. The K70's RGB hardware can't properly support animations in the whole colour range. The RGB blue switches on the K70 had some problem or another, and they discontinued it.

Reportedly, the Strafe doesn't have the animation problem. Ducky is the only other company I know that makes a board with RGB Cherry switches, and the Shine 5 is all sold out due to it being a new product in high demand.
>>
>>52090514

Going with Cherry MX Reds.

Clicky is cool but would get old fast the minute someone has a headache. Tried reds and I liked the smoothness of them. Both of us are very light typers so I doubt it would be an issue typing and for gaming it seems very nice.

My point was the Strafe isn't worth its price compared to other things and is missing the one thing that set Corsair apart, so its kinda shit.

RGB is shit for another reason. Though maybe not the newer model but no one knows yet. But at least they know better than to get a Razr over LEDs, tried one of those recently and what a fucking pile of mush. I mean its nice, for about a 50 dollar keyboard anyway.

And ya that is about the only place I found Ducky keyboards, but I guess 170 isn't bad if its as good as everyone says.

>>52092083
I don't think Red will be an issue. Blue would be. My sidewinder makes about as much noise as reds, pretty manageable.

>My point was the Strafe isn't worth its price compared to other things and is missing the one thing that set Corsair apart, so its kinda shit.
I thought you wanted an RGB board for your ricer friend.
>>
>>52094995
I do. But downgrading what counts over LEDs wouldn't be smart. Then again I guess it isn't much different.

But Strafe and the 2016 K70 are both recent so if Strafe can do RGB I would think the 2016 could as well. I may get them off the RGB idea entirely, but I know they'll want something of a backlight for looks. Can't really blame them, when you shell out a lot of money for something it should be nice and look nice.

Ducky isn't the be-all of keyboards. It's just a decent brand that makes an RGB board. With that as your criteria, your options are limited.

Well only thing that has been said that it has over Corsair is being brighter and standard caps. Or for that matter with other brands either. Sorry I'm just always suspect of /g/, its a polarizing board. Ultimately, they feel similar as both use Cherry switches. The Ducky was perhaps a bit more solid in typing feel, likely due to the steel mounting plate. The Shine 3 also looked better, as the K70 was kind of big (and I don't mean because it was fullsize) and gaudy. The media controls on the Corsair were also rubbish membrane shit. The Shine's space bar always struck me as dumb, as the animal shapes don't light up evenly - hardly a problem though, as that shit gets replaced. Ultimately, the K70 wasn't even a remote consideration due to the nonstandard bottom row.
>>
>>52096140
Ah I see. Strafe I'm guessing has the same nonstandard row?

Curious. I don't see caps getting replaced unless they straight wear out. Sort of miss my first logitech cheapo, had only a few letters left holding on.
>>
>>52095502

Cherry does produce greens and clears though?
>>
>>52096179
>Strafe I'm guessing has the same nonstandard row?
Correct.

>Curious. I don't see caps getting replaced unless they straight wear out.
It's not a matter of being able to when they wear out, it's something to be done as soon as you get the board.

>>52096183
RGB greens and clears?
>>
>>52096199
Why replace them right away? Personal feel?
>>
>>52096308
Stock caps on nearly every mech are shit. Thin, shit legending, cheap ABS formula. They'll shine up real quick and offer a hollow typing feel.

I'm using some thick, blank PBT caps. Gateron white from a GB on Geekhack. Much more solid, improves acoustics of my NovaTouch, and the PBT texture is very nice - less tacky, with a subtle texture.

This is to say nothing of alternate profiles that a person may prefer.

Any recommendations for darkish green keycaps?

What's the difference between the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid-I and the one with no I?
>>
>>52098561
Heh, I'm going to order the dark version of that a bit later today.
>>
I have a question:
For some of my games i need to drag my finger on the contiguous keys without lift it up, like if i am doing a glissando on a piano. I can do it fine with my low budged gaming keyboard and i was wondering if i can do it with a mechanical keyboard.

Can anyone try for me? Press Q and try to go straight to the Y without lifting your finger. Thanks
>>
>>52099662
it depends on the caps.
>>
Is the CM Storm Quckfire Rapid compatible with most keycap sets? I heard its spacebar is an non-standard size.
>>
>>52099662
I have OEM profile keycaps (about as tall as keycaps get) and it works perfectly fine. I'm guessing it'd work with just about any other keycap profile, but it'll certainly work better with a flatter profile such as DSA.
>>
>>52099804
>tall
it's more of a countour issue than height.

dsa have a round profile so it tends to limit you in 4 direction compared to the 2 directions of a cylinder profile
>>
I see you guys have talked a bit about Strafe, but nobody has mentioned the new "silent" MX keys yet.
Opinions?
>>
>>52099856
>but nobody has mentioned
that should tell you a lot, lad
>>
>>52099691
It uses a standard bottom row, so most caps are fine.

DSA caps would be peffect for this.

I'd recommend greens (nice audible and tactile feedback on activation) but it is really preference. Get a switchtedter and try then all out. If you can find one with a pcb and gateron and cherry switches you will be good.

If a friend has a full board of what you find you like, thats even better.

I'm using a Leopold TKL Brown right now with some nice PBT keycaps but I can't use the spacebar for the set because it doesn't fit.

Kind of want to buy something with red switches though.

Damn.

What are some decent minimal TKLs I can buy in Europe.

I don't wanna ship from Korea or Japan because VAT. I'm looking for a decent minimalist TKL like a Ducky Zero or a Leopold but I can't find any. Amazon.de or co.uk would be fine.

>RGB greens and clears?
Couldn't they just use the regular green or clear with a rgb led instead.
>>
>>52101913
Theoretically, but I'm pretty sure they want to be able to market an "RGB switch". Plus, far fewer people want greens or clears.
>>
>>52101913
>>52101964
Also, the way the Shine 5 and Corsair boards work is with an SMD LED, which definitely requires a translucent switch.
>>
>>52101913
I doubt that there's any huge market for RGB clears or greens.

RGB backlighting generally appeals more to the gaymen crowd, to which the niche switches that are greens and clears do not appeal very much.

It probably wouldn't be a huge effort to produce RGB greens and clears, but even then it probably wouldn't be worth it.

>>52101840
I was wondering if I had made a mistake on my first mech, and when it arrived I absolutely loved it. I wondered if I made a mistake in how much I paid for a Shine 4 with clears in ANSI, and when it arrived I absolutely loved it.

I'm quite confident in my decision making regarding mechanical keyboards by now.
>>
>>52102007
Do you have dead LEDs on your shine?
>>
>>52102041
Nope. It's about half a year old by now and all of the LEDs still work perfectly.

I slapped those vortex translucent PBT caps on which are quite a bit thicker than the stock caps and it hasn't caused any problems either. Everything working great.
