Hey guys, New PC fag here. Going to upgrade my pc's graphics card from an Nvidia GTX 645 to an ASUS GeForce GTX 960 Strix 4GB. Is it possible to upgrade?

Link to the 645 specs here: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-645-oem/specifications

Fuck off to a /sqt/ and lurk more.

4GB not good?

it's enough to install gentoo on it 2bh family

There's the issue of the card crapping itself performance-wise when it hits 3.5GB of VRAM usage because by some retarded twist of fate, a single extra L2 chip was too much to include.
But chances are, you'll never use that much VRAM, so if it's what you want, go for it.
I'm not that other guy by the way.

960 doesn't have the 3.5 GB problem but
>128 bit bus

Op here. I'm really new to all of this and barely know what you guys are talking about, but from what I understand you guys don't like 4GB and try to convince me of not getting it, right?
>>
>>52060272

if you are at 1080/60 then you don't need 4gb of vram

960 is one of the best value cards at 1080 but i've heard bad things about asus

Judging by the fact you have a 645 im going to assume you have some prebuilt main brand PC like Dell or HP. While it's totally possible to put a 960 in there, it's questionable how much good it will do you. For one the PSU is probably garbage and doesn't even have the additional PCIe power connections to meet the 960's demands. Secondly the CPU in there is probably garbage.

You're leaving out a lot of important details that would help us help you make a more informed decision. That said - 4gb 960 is a waste of money at best. Barring extremely heavily modded Skyrim you're never going to use that much VRAM without the GPU choking shit.
>>
OP give us the specs of your current pc to the best of your ability

just get a b-stock 970 instead, the 960 is ~30% slower.

>4GB not good?

It's like putting nice rims and decked out interior on a 2010 ford focus.

Such a waste.

I know the bus is godaweful, but that's what you get with what's pretty much the budget card of the pack.
I have a 960 and I hold 30+ FPS on GTAV on the highest settings. I can get 50+ if I turn off Nvidia's super-fancy shadowing method.
All in all, the 960, both the 2GB and the 4GB version I have are pretty solid.

>>52060768
Not if it was a Focus RS. You need to be more specific, horrible analogy.
>>
>>52060798
The 760 had a 256 bit memory bus, between this and 3.5 nvidia is just feeling they're secure enough to screw the customers because AMD has been outputting garbage.

>but that's what you get with what's pretty much the budget card of the pack.
Except AMD's offering is much better.

>AMD has been outputting garbage.
Are you fucking retarded?
The R9 380 is faster than the 960 for the same price, doesn't have a tiny crippling bus, and has better DX12 support. Then the 380X came and just made things worse for Nvidia.
Same for the R9 390, which performs better than the 970 and has more than twice as much VRAM, all for the same price, not to mention again better DX12 support.
The 390X and the 980 are essentially tied, and Nvidia does have the upper hand on the 980 Ti vs. Fury X, but below $400 (which is where >90% of the market is) Nvidia is handly BTFO'd by AMD.
Literally the only advantage the 960 and 970 have over the 380/380X and 390 is lower power consumption, but the difference (about 70W to 80W) isn't really that significant to offet the vast advantages AMD has right now on those price ranges.

Get a R9 380x or R9 380 4GB.

The 960 has a shitty 128bit bus and is a lot weaker.
