Are you poor?
Got a great Christmas gift from my weeaboo brother: a watch winder made by Orient. The quality is definitely higher than the $60 one I got off Amazon, thing is built like a tank and is whisper-quiet. Instructions are all in Japanese, I'll need to find a way to translate them but it's not like it takes a rocket scientist to figure this out. Seems to have 4 modes. Pretty cool design, too.
This is great, I'm gonna plug it in and leave my Ray on the winder, so now I can have an Orient in my Orient.
Reposting since I was on the ass end of that last thread's shelf life.
Got this for Christmas. I really like it but I'm not sure about the brand. Is Ferrari meme-tier?
>>52051112
It's a 5$ chinkshit watch that probably cost your family anywhere from 40~60$.
Not even meme-tier, just plain dogshit.

Stocking stuffer: a nice RIOS1931 strap for the 44KS.
Speaking of which, someone in the last thread was calling me out on the 45 and 52 calibers, and then someone else pointed out my reservations with both, so I won't go over that again. Insofar as the 44 caliber is shit because "muh missing hairspring weight", well I guess I won the movement lottery because my hairspring weight is still attached. Even if it falls off because some idiot battery monkey tinkered with it, the damn movement itself is still pretty much unkillable and will still keep time to +/- 10 with proper regulation.
>>52050968
Seems decent so far. I'm personally not a fan of Hadley-Roma since I find their stuff wears out quickly, but then again for $20 it's sort of hard to beat.
>>52051112
It's pretty meme. But it's the thought that counts, right?
>>52051245
Yeah i agree on that wearout part, i've had one of their straps for a year and it looks more worn out then it it's really is.
I should add a couple of more RIOS models to the next version of the guide, what model of strap is that and how is it?
>reposting due to posting at end of last thread
Around a week ago anon posted an unboxing of a vintage Accutron.
If you're around care to explain the movement? Seems really interesting, I know it's a tuning fork, but I can't really find details on how it actually works.
>>52050876
>>52051245
Honestly I can't find anything informative on the weaknesses of the 45xx series besides people noting the mainspring was quite strong. Do you have any sources in that subject?
I still think there is no basis whatsoever for anyone to be badmouthing the 52xx. It should be obvious when dealing with vintage watches with a quickset feature that you don't try to use it between 21:00 and 03:00, and I believe it was only the 5206 that lacked the spring loaded pawl anyway.
On the other hand, the fatal flaw of the plastic quickset gear on the Seiko 56xx is well documented and is now believed to purely occur as a result of age rather than wear or misuse, which essentially makes every 56xx quickset mechanism a ticking time bomb.
>>52051312
Its just a battery that produced small magnetic field that moves the tuning fork left and right something like motion of a big wall clock pendulum.
Now and the fork goes left and right at a certain frequency so it rotates a wheel, and then the gears are regular as any watch.
>>52050886
Now for my post, any of you guys know brand with similar look of pic related?
Ive fallen in love but i cant afford it ;_;

Similar in what way. Onion crown? Polished case on leather? White dials and blue indicies and hands?
There's a lot of options out there. I'd just like to mention if you're short on cash, many overlooked pre-owned or vintage pieces are amazing deals.
>nineball op with that gay as fuck line
>>52051543
I dont think its possible to get one of these used since i dont even know where to start looking.
As for the similarity im mainly interested in the dial itself and the pattern on it,as well as the violet hour markings.Something similar would be nice
>>52051295
It's a 19mm "Toscana". Pretty good overall, has a tough finish but it's still fairly pliable and quite comfy. It's actually a little longer than I thought, I need to go all the way to the innermost hole to keep the damn thing on my bitch wrists.
>>52051368
I heard about the issues with the 45 mostly through the network of watchmakers I use. True that I've only got about 8 people in the sample set, but they get 45 calibers sent into them from all over the country (and sometimes internationally; there is one guy I knew in St. Thomas, Ontario who had 45s coming into him from Russia) and their criticism was all universally the same. Now that i think about it, another issue on the 36600 bph 45 calibers was worn minute pinions, which will of course wear at the pivots but also on pinion leaves, which is very unusual and indicates a design defect. Maybe the strong mainspring has something to do with that. I find the internet is kind of a bad resource for these things, because most people are just praising the design of the case (which looks great) or patting each other on the backs in various forums (wear it in good health etc etc).
Embarassingly, I mixed up the 52 and the 56 calibers. The 52 did indeed have issues with the weird binding on the date quickset mechanism, but it was the 56 that had the fucking plastic bits that just wore out over time. Very foolish of me and I acknowledge that mistake. That being said, the 56 is otherwise a great movement, just you risk losing the quickset and then end up having to set the date like a vintage Omega (ie, many 24-hour turns, and I don't know what you would do for the day). Some watchmakers had told me about unusual wear points and issues with the bidirectional winding mechanism in the 52, I would have to refresh my memory on that one, and I don't think it's universally recognized so it may just be a few bad apple 52s.
Why are people here butthurt by Patek posters? Every time someone claims it's a fake.

>buying Indian watches
>ever
Just got this in the mail yesterday, very happy with how it looks.
What is everyone's opinion on it?
>>52051665
Found the photo of the typical 45 Caliber minute pinion. As I was saying, it may be due to the stronger mainspring, which was presumably used to drive the higher beatrate, but also stored sufficient energy to cause increased wear. I guess Seiko hadn't quite figured out 36,600 by this point (though I don't recall the lowly Lord Marvels suffering from the same issue).
Also, I think the pallet jewels on the 45 caliber also have unusual wear patterns. It looks like clean-cut marks running up and down the face of the jewel. I don't have any photos.
>>52051665
I will ask my favorite watchmaker about the 45xx and see what he thinks about it, I have been doing a fair bit of googling on them and haven't been able to turn up much. I hope I don't have to avoid this line because I really love the 4502-7000/7001 models.
>mixed up 52xx and 56xx
Ah! That makes sense. Yeah, I would avoid 56xx series movements entirely because I'm not willing to risk the quickset issues. I have a Lord Matic Special with a 5206 on the way to me that I scored for $129 USD after realizing how undervalued the 5206/5216 remain.
>>52051829
Too busy, and I bet you don't even know what all the dials are supposed to mean.
>>52052017
I'm not a retard, it's not that complicated. You'd have to be a real fucking moron to not understand what the dials mean and how to work it
>>52051917
I really wish Seiko would just make parts for their old movements so we didn't have to worry about any quickset/cannon pinion/whatever issues whatsoever. If the Mountain Jews can do it, so can Seiko.

Smartest watch am operator would use would be a gshock rangeman. The f91w is a solid choice which appears to be your watch face at the moment.

An operator would never use a smartwatch, because the battery could run out when he needs it most. G-shocks are popular.
>>52053674
Your friend probably saved you quite a bit of money, the watch market here is fucked and people have been conditioned to think MSRP is the actual value of watches. It's bad enough that Yahoo auctions is basically a bad early 1990s geocities site, but also people think a beat up moldy old vintage watch with scratched crystal and no bracelet is worth more than it was when it was new.
Here's my only Christmas present that's watch related, a far too expensive strap but it's a great match for the original Bond strap's colours.

That's the point. Had he gone straight to the source, the pawn shops and antique stores in Japan where these fucking Japs are getting their product that they overprice for us goy- I mean gaijins, then I wouldn't have to pay so much money for a moldy vintage watch. I'd get it for the equivalent of $30 plus transit fare. Far, far below MSRP. He would have actually saved me money if he bought the fucking things, since then I could have kept the best ones for myself and actually made something shipping them out from Canada to desperate vintage Seiko collectors in the US. My dream is to ultimately collect and release such a huge volume of vintage Seikos on eBay that the price suffers a crash and never recovers.

>All stations using 2182 KHz were required to maintain a strictly enforced three-minute silence and listening period twice each hour, starting at h+00, h+30. This allowed any station with distress, urgent or safety traffic the best chance of being heard at that time, even if they were at some distance from other stations, operating on reduced battery power or perhaps reduced antenna efficiency, as for example from a dismasted vessel. As a visual aide-memoire, a typical clock in a ship's radio room (see picture) would have these silence periods marked by shading the sectors from h+00 to h+03 and from h+30 to h+33 in green.

I want to add a steel sports watch to my collection and I'm torn between two options.
I like the classic look of the black Rolex Submariner No Date, but I also love the Audemars Piguet 41mm Royal Oak in white.

Both pretty decent choices. I don't like the new royal oaks, I do like royal oaks but my preference lies with the older models. I would go for the Rolex, I love the look of the no dates. I've also heard ap are cunts when it comes to servicing, they takes ages, charge a fortune, and don't resolve common problems

In civilian life, sure (I probably fit that category myself), but if you keep an eye out in pics of US Military, especially Spec Ops types, you'll see them all the time. They're practically invincible, light, low-key, and have huge numbers that are easy to read compared to many G-Shock etc displays.
>>52068671
That plus its kind of a thing in urban music subculture as well.
The slang word "taagi" (which means big and so on) actually comes from Tag. Apparently it is because the guards who used to work as bouncers at music gigs at a certain venue had Tag Heuers which they'd received from their employer.

That's because they come unregulated (or very basically regulated) from the factory. Mine does about +15/-10 after a simple regulationg (it did like 20+ out of the factory desu).

Funnily enough, I've held and fired those at a /k/ meetup, they are collectors items not inherently worth that much.

An SBR'd Mac-10 with a longer barrel and a bit of turd polishing would make a great gun IMHO.
>>52070076
>>52070114
I have no fucking idea about how to do it.
Also that Komandirskie looks neat as fuck.
I considered an Amphibian first but I don't need the steel bracelet or the extra water resistance.
>>52070556
I couldn't get the mac 11 though a single mag without a jam.
I'd want to get an mp5 clone if I was dropping a decent chunk on a range toy.
>>52070422
Another strap for the SNZG15.
Otherwise you need to get some russian watch, preferably with a white or blue dial. Bonus points for green.
>>52070559
>steel bracelet
Literally the worst part about the Amphibia, the case is steel in comparison to the Komandirskies chrome plated brass case. As far as regulating goes get it to a proper watchmaker and pay him some shekels if you're incompetent.
And that Dirskie was a drunk purchase, quite a good one so far.
>>52070536
>Funnily enough, I've held and fired those at a /k/ meetup, they are collectors items not inherently worth that much.
I agree with you - when I was in the US I had a play around with an SVD (Don't know if it was a converted Tiger or something else), it was great, but not really the grail of full size semi rifles.
Fuck the import ban though, they're great guns.
I REALLY hope that Hollis vs Lynch is successful, then all my murrikan friends can buy full giggle guns and I can have some range time with them next time I visit.
>>52070595
>I couldn't get the mac 11 though a single mag without a jam.
From what I've heard they're pretty finicky with rounds, were you using FMJ?
>>52070616

>>52070698
>the magazine was fucked
Well there's your problem.
Are new Mac style mags even made, or is just easier to convert them to a Glock magwell?
>>52070675
They definitely do not fit right. Tell them those are the wrong size, since those undersized straps ruin the aesthetic of the watch.

The part about the "FAKE" Bond nato is funny nowadays.
>The supreme irony is NO James Bond ever wore a NATO strap in a James Bond movie and the strap below is the wrong colors and wrong pattern.
Well, nowadays Craig does. A Seamaster with a grey-black NATO was featured rather heavily in the new Spectre film.
The "wrong" idea of that strap being the Bond nato got far enough to become true.
>>52070675
You paid 40 bucks for NATOs? Aliexpress is a thing anon
>>52071306
but it feels pretty good to know that you'll get quality stuff as opposed to just hoping that the chinks won't send you shit

>>52071268
Maybe you have bad eyesight or something. Or maybe I'm just overly autistic about fonts.
INVICTA vs. Re sis tant
Truly an escape-escape conflict.
>>52071333
They feel the same. If the chink nato is too rough throw it in the wash with some fabric softener.
>>52071341
>>Maybe you have bad eyesight or something. Or maybe I'm just overly autistic about fonts.
My eyesight ain't bad, the text is really just so tiny that you don't notice it until the watch is about 8" from your face.
>>52071341
The Invicta branding is everywhere though. The case, the dial the second hand, the movement, everywhere you have that shitty brand name or their logo.
That re sis tant is just in a single place at least.
>>52071366
Well then I've had bad luck with my chink natos. They're noticeably worse even after a wash.
That said I prefer thick-ass zulu anyway, that costs more anyway.
>>52071389
You can remove all that except for the branding on the side, which is what I was comparing the kerning to.
Also maybe I just had better luck with chink natos I guess. My main issue with them is the weeks long shipping time.

>Is the bezel insert aluminum?
Ceramic.
>>52071306
I paid 25$ for five. It seemed okay. They aren't uncomfortable.
I might get a leather zulu, I like the way natos and zulus fasten, rather than fuck with spring bars whenever I want to change the look.
