>>

Looks like fools gold. Isn't tracking so integrated into Windows 10 it's impossible to disable?
>>
>>52049470
Never installed it to begin with. Telemetry is baked in. You can not disable it fully. Only a person with no self respect would allow a corporation openly spy on them like that.

>>
>>52049704
Some settings in GP simply don't work, even if you can change them (like disabling telemetry in Pro).

>>52049764
There is no forced telemetry or forced updates in 8 or 7.
>>

>I didn't click "EXPRESS SETTINGS" and unticked every single "send shit to us so we can suck your dick better, senpai" tab.

That still leaves a bunch of botnet and bloat, family.

Seriously, just don't use 10, there's no point anyway.
>>
>>52051125
I, being a normie and not using this PC for world dominance, just like the look and feel of Win10. Got 7 on my laptop and I'm not installing it there.

Seriously, it looks hella nice and it makes me feel all fuzzy inside. And the only other install DVD in my house is a Win8Pro. Fuck that. I'll try the new stuff, runs smoothly so far.

He right though, about the botnet part at least. Bloat is subjective on a non-oem windows install, but some would call it that.

what kind of a botnet does Win10 have?

As long as the NSA doesn't come knocking on my door, I don't care about my data

Also, I'm not a kind of person that wouldn't have online info somewhere. Because I work in a field that has the information written down publicly. In books.
>>
>>52051270
Well it's not a literal botnet either, so he's not right at all.
>>52051308
Windows 10 is nothing but goodness. It's superior to both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. No software is perfect, as the old adage goes. But Windows 10 gets pretty damned close.
>>

Did he mean the part that "Windows will spread updates from user to user"?

If that's the case and you're not retarded, you can air-gap your system. I did that partially, I had to install anything by physically taking it on a flash drive from my laptop to the PC and installing it. I have a USB antenna now, but it can still be air-gapped by just unplugging it.

If you use windows for gaming, then just accept the botnet and use it for gaming. use Linux for everything else. Or else you will have to work for hours every update removing every piece of the botnet that is put back again after every update. And it is included. Or risk turning your computer to a criminal botnet by running scripts from the internet every update. It is impossible to completely remove it even if you remove most of it. It is a sisyphean effort, pulling a rock to the top of a mountain, and then it rolls down again before you push it up again for eternity.

Just use Linux as your daily OS. and just let the botnet do it's work. It will look into your files of course, but Microsoft can not read Linux file systems like ext4 so everything on your linux partition is safe.
>>
>>52051995
>Whitelist need stuff
Telemetry isn't listed as "telemetry". It's listed as legit stuff needed for OS to work. You will be doing a lot of probing and guessing with your whitelist.
>>
>>52052545
Arent you afraid someone will hack into your computer and update it for you? It is easy to do, the security problems are open on the internet. Any script kid can do it, don't need a CS degree or any real skills. Which is why the security updates exists.
>>
>>52052685
>NSA can not read Linux file systems
Sure buddy.
>>
>>52052714
Windows can't because they don't bother implementing it in their OS. You can not use a Windows OS to check a linux file system. And in any case you can encrypt the home folder on a linux system easily by just checking of a checkbox during install.
>>
>>52052738
You will be protected from MS, not NSA

Not like it matters, if you wanted true privacy you would have to stop using an internet connection
>>
>>
>>52052712

Figured I'd ask in this thread. Does the upgrade ask a product key or anything? My installed copy of 7 is oem and I don't want an oem version anymore if I upgrade. Would I have to do a clean install (after upgrade) to put in a key for a non oem version?

Win7 already downloading, I'd rather fuck around with Rainmeter before touching this steaming pile of shit again. Anyone have any idea on how to make Win7 as pretty as Win10? I gotta say, the system looks nice. But it's broken.
>>
>>52053531
How do you block windows telemetry? I heard it can work on a pretty low level and even third party software firewalls get bypassed? Only solution is hardware firewall I personally never used one and I feel hardware firewall is somewhat more difficult to configure correctly so that only traffic that you want is allowed out
>>
>>52056434
Do the upgrade through windows, it will authenticate your motherboard for windows 10. Then burn the upgrade iso and do the clean install, it should auto activate.
>>
>>52056434
Seriously, don't, bruv. I know you want to. I know it may sound like a good idea. But mark my words. I did a clean install of it. I tried my best. I put it into a clean new all-parts-bought-then-built system. You don't want this.

>>
>>52056502
You can't... People following the firewall 24/7 are deluding themselves, there are connections to microsoft all the time looking for updates and that sort of thing. Even if you spend 24 hours per day looking through and analyzing every package sent something might still slip past. And you need to do EVERYTHING again after the next update and repeat after the next update and after that. And they probably know what people are doing and you have like 100 engineers trying to sneak telemetry all over so you need to do research after every update. It is very time consuming, difficult and you won't have time to do anything else if you want to really make sure. You could run some script of the internet, but criminals have made lots of these script and you are likely just installing THEIR botnet and keylogger and soon your credit card is drawn.

Just accept the botnet. Use windows for gaming and linux for everything else.

Updates on Windows 10 are forced unless you have the Enterprise version. If you have Home, then even the restarts are forced. Restarts and updates are forced by default no matter what version you have. This is not a option for most people on Windows 10.

You would need to keep it offline all the time.

Have you seen a telemetry cap? Not likely, largely because there's a non-public tool required to decrypt the tool.

I've seen the telemetry pulls. I used to have to analyze them as part of my job. There is zero personally identifiable data transmitted.

You don't have to like Windows, and there are reasons to use something else instead of 7/8x/10, but this is simple FUD...
