How do you people even live with Windows?
There is literally no config files, its all in this big mess called "the registry"
Apparently windows users actually have to activate their os
The only package managers are apparently slow
I had a hearty kek when I learned this
God BSD has never felt better

>>
>There is literally no config files, its all in this big mess called "the registry"

Wrong. MS guidelines are that you use the registry if your program has 4k or less of configuration data, else you use your own config files..

Linux is great for running servers and for having a nice terminal. It's absolute shit for getting anything done with 3rd party software.

Oh, and don't even get me started on trying to, you know, get a fucking job while using Linux. Can't edit a Word document without absolutely mangling it. Yeah, good for you, you LaTeX fucking alpha nerd schmuck, you're exactly what 1% of the market wants for the job.

Software development on Windows is a pain in the ass compared to Linux. There's no functioning package manager, so you have to compile about 80% of your libraries yourself, and over half the time, something breaks in the build process because it wasn't designed to work with MSYS or Cygwin or MSBuild, or whatever the fuck you're using. It may be the case that the source code should be able to work perfectly on Windows with a working build script, but most people only test their shit on Unix.

>>52045410

Your workplace would prefer that you only use .docx.
>>
>>52045537
As of Office 2015, it is completely compatible with odt files. Furthermore, as an end user, libre office also supports docx.
In fact, gradual implementation of OpenOffice is quite noticeable: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Major_OpenOffice.org_Deployments#Europe
>>
>>52045597
Office 2015 doesn't exist
>>
>>52045537
>Software development on Windows is a pain in the ass compared to Linux.

depends what you are developing. If your developing end user applications, games, programs with extensive GUI requirements I would say no, Windows is easier. If your developing some networking programs or tools that just require command line access Linux is prob easier.

>you can't install different versions of the same program (but depends of package model and distro)
>you can't install two versions of the same library (again, depends of the package model and the distro)
>when dependencies become more fragmented, the separation between user programs and system programs becomes more blurry
>all the binaries are thrown in a single folder, or scatered in more (this is more a cosmetic issue but autism)
>you can't install programs easily from source
>dependency hell
Probably I'm wrong or oversimplifying some things, but these are my main issues with package management idea.
The security and the fact that all are controlled centrally by the distro are two niceties I can't live, tough.

Libre office provides a good support of docx files as well. Besides there is not many office that will prevebt a user to use a .doc / .pdf files

And..... Its simple. The reason Linux is so "unpopular" is because it is like driving a car without a windshield. Constantly having bugs hit you in the face.
>>
>>52044899
Credit where credit is due. Looks like you're actually trying OP. A lot of windows users actually do this. This is why I never announce I'm a gamer, because 99% of them are like this. It truly disgusts me.
>>
>>52045165
Better battery life, better and more hardware support, easier to use, easier to maintain, etc.

Oh and powershell is better than all those text-only interpreters you call shells. But I read some Linux yards are ripping off the idea like they always do.
