Whats a good full layout board with Red switches? I heard the quickfire XT was pretty good.

Idk why it's been so hard to find red switches lately, it's all been blue or brown lately. The only Red switch things I've been finding have all been ones with crazy RGB lighting that surpass well over $200. I just want a clickity clackity comfy keyboard damn it.

I just won this in eBay for 20 bucks. If it's a dud, at least I'm only out 20 bucks.

The pink stickers indicate missing key caps. Other than these missing caps, everything else is intact and functional.

It isn't, not in the sense that an alps or cherry switch is.

Model Ms are either membrane or capacitive depending on the generation.
>>
>>52027097
I think most people bottom out cherry switches. My browns have that actuation point, but I think if I were to actually try and not depress the keys to the bottom it would just make me type slower.
>>
>>52027146
Yeah, most people who buy cherry keyboards these days are mouthbreathing gamers who can't type for shit.
>>
>>52027146
It's mostly because they're used to typing on rubber domes, where you actually have to bottom out in order for it to register
It takes a while to unlearn that, and once you do that, it becomes difficult to get used to a regular pleb keyboard again.

the reason why you never see anything good at thrift stores is because they bring in specialists who snap up all the valuable shit and then resell them to refurbishers which in turn resell them on ebay at a huge markup to neckbeards like you.

a decent mechanical board starts at $80, and you're still gonna want to replace the keycaps at that price range, so just save up $200 at the very least if you want to buy something nice.

After a year you'd have 1/2 LEDs working and turning it off completely will be the most obvious solution.

Weird offbrand switch with strange LED behavior.
Green = Gigabit
Off = no link, 10mbit, or 100mbit
Yellow LED on each port does god knows what.
But it's a managed 24 port switch with all the usual features for $8.

>>52038708
Yes, but then it also has 2 5gbit stacking ports. Which is strange, because the case doesn't expose those stacking ports yet before I cleared the config it had seen other switches in the stack.
Also it's missing the the serial port but the header on the board is there.

Control there is amazing if you use emacs. Basic emacs navigation keys also work lots of places. Control-a/e for home/end works almost all the time. Control-h/d for backspace/delete. Control-p/n to go up and down in text. Control-k to delete to the end of the line.

give them some more credit man, their hardware is a little more than passable. Caps are definitely shit though, but you can buy a barebones and put on your own caps.

I always get butthurt when people discuss mechanical vs. non-mechanical switches. Ironically, the king of mechanical keyboards, the model M, isn't truly mechanical due to the membrane activated by the key hammer being part of the mechanism. So they what makes a keyboard mechanical? Discrete switches? Does "mechanical" even mean anything or confer a tangible improvement in feel?

Fuck it, the model M is cool and feels good.
>>
>>52039065
Why would you want to press 2 buttons to do the purpose of 1? Isn't vi/vim emacs supposed to be for efficiency?

shines are meant to be a little show-offish and flashy. Other ducky keyboards are generally completely minimalistic minus some year of the x editions and whatnot. I personally like it, it adds a bit of style to separate itself from other minimal keyboards/gaymer keyboards. It's a good happy medium.

Things not to do to a Model M, and jesus fuck, the orange peel on that case beside him. Ugh. If you want to rice a classic, make it reversible. Blue or Traffic Light Green 3mm/rectangular LEDs. I can't believe that spraypainted keys can last another 5 years, let alone the 20 you can get out of a Model M.

That dell keyboard with the media buttons was one of my favorite keyboard pre-mechanical.

The volume knob was fun and the lights were kind of neat. I think I used that right up until I got a CM Storm QuickFire Rapid.

Him dropping in speed is temporary, and he's sure to be faster on the mechanical if he sticks with it. I went through the same thing after switching. I didn't expect to suddenly beat my highest WPM when I got a mechanical, but I was a bit irritated that I couldn't get within 5 wpm of my old record. These days I'm much faster.

Read the first two posts.

I don't mind leds. I don't have a bias towards it or anything. And I wouldn't say I want to buy Shine because of leds. They are kinda nice looking though I'm not going to deny that.

But wouldn't you start having buyer's remorse with dying leds?
I mean if the fate of leds is obvious (they are going to die anyway) then maybe it's better to get Ducky Premier and not Shine? Premier has leds too but I don't think that anyone cares about them.

I came to accept the neckbeard inside me and I am looking for a 60% keyboard to match my soon to be acquired thinkpad x200 Not to use the keyboard with the thinkpad in fashionable coffee shops like a hipster (I'm not cool enough to be a hipster anyway, else, I wouldnt be browsing /g/ on christmas), but to plug the thing in an external monitor, close the lid of the laptop and use the board.

I want both to fit in my backpack.
