Which DE is the best and why it's Xfce?
Discuss.

It has just enough features without having bloat, and it's lightweight.

>good looking
>resource light
>very customizable
I'll probably never use another DE again.
>>
>>52024060
It's a great DE. The only thing that brothers me is the fact that the xfce4-powermanagement or whatever its called doesn't work on my notebook.
>>
>>52024060
you spelled cinnamon wrong

xfce and lxde are goat

It's pretty comfy. Haven't had any problems with crashing or glitchy animation or slugginess, that I had with KDE and Gnome.
>>
Anyone know some good themes for XFCE?
>>
I like it
>>
>>52024635
I personally used numix quite a lot before I started using openbox and tint2 in its place. I have a huge spot in my heart for xfce though, it just works and it was the first DE I tried.
>>
>>52024060
Linux newfag here. What makes this DE better than other DEs such as Cinnamon or KDE? I would greatly appreciate it if someone can highlight pros and cons (if there are any).
>>
>>52024402
yeah, but OP is talking about XFCE, why did you describe MATE m8?
>>
>>52024635
greybird
stock, simple/basic, most polished
>>

Cinnamon -> a bit heavier than XFCE, but easier to understand for people that come from Windows

KDE -> A bit confusing for newbies, RAM hog, but by the far the most complete in terms of functionality

XFCE is light and highly customizable but a bit unstable. You should go for MATE, it's pretty much the same as XFCE but a bit lighter and far more stable, easier to use "out of the box".
>>
>>52024737
install it and play with it for a day
that you can do this and so easily is a big part of the glorious beauty of GNU/Linux and free software
>>
General reminder that "which %s is best and why is it %s" threads are bait.

That said, I do use and like XFCE. :)
>>
>>52024449
Yeah, I've been having weird laptop-battery related issues with xcfe for a little while. I'm almost attempted to try my hand at a bugfix that will get released in 15 years.
>>
What distro should I use with xfce? Arch?

I hate it.
It makes me manually configure the display every time i connect or disconnect my external monitor and it doesn't have option to extend to the left.
>>

Any distro you prefer

Theres an option in the dispay settings to enable/disable the configurations and you can individually move each display like windows to any location.

C'mon son.
>>
what, XFCE is very, very bloated, do you fags even know what you're talking about?
>>
On the real Mr. OP I would love to use it on my Arch install if the UHD support was better. Although I realize that this is more of an Xorg problem. XFCE like every DE needs to pick up Wayland and run.

My problem is similar to this :
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=171655
I hate the fact that you need to do the solution from that forum to make xfce auto detect and auto configure when other DE like GNOME and KDE can do it without doing that solution

Not quite. I use Mint + xfce and am not satisfied. After some time, I experience a bug where the DE doesn't respond to certain mouse or keyboard input.
>>
I just love the always on top function and the window snapping. XFCE + compton is perfect for me. I hope they port to wayland once it's stable.
