I believe the E6600 pretty performed the same as the slightly newer quadcore Q6600.
Games at the time weren't optimized with a quadcore in mind.

trying to run Windows or any modern bloated software on a processor like that is like torturing yourself, but I was surprised how well an Athlon XP-M 2000+ ran Fedora 23 with LXDE.
back in 2007 I was using an Athlon XP on a WinXP machine, and it felt fast. even Firefox worked great. alas, how times have changed, since now even an overclocked Intel hexa-core and SSD isn't enough to run Fireshit smoothly.
