Is amateur radio a cool thing to get into? Does anyone care? Or is it for truckers and old people?
A foundation licence is £27.50 in the UK. Thats $40 for non-bongs.

I run a 24.15GHz radar in my car without a license and have never gotten in trouble. Been pulled over with it set up twice but cops let me off because as far as they could find out it wasn't illegal. I wouldn't expect state cops would know federal radio laws unless they were HAMs as well.
