I am looking to improve my audio quality by getting a condenser microphone. I have done enough research that tells me for my budget I want one of these two: the Blue Snowball or the Samson Meteor.

Does anyone know which one is superior (they're both around $50) or can anyone just recommend one over the other?

Here are amazon links to both:

Samson - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MF39YS/

Blue - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006DIA77E/

Hey guys. Anon that worked on the /g/ mic guide in last night's thread.

This may help you, op. I've still got some additions to make, and I have to add pictures, but I think I've got a good starting point for you to work from, here.

Appreciated, anon.

Don't buy Samson usb broke after 3 months
>>
>>52005793
Yw, m80. I'll be finishing it up tonight, hopefully
>>
>>52003091
If you're using it for spoken voice only, the samson will be fine. The Blue is a better product, and I'd really recommend that over the samson.

I'd honestly save some money and get the Nessie instead of the snowball also
>>
the samson looks like it's intended for rectal use only.

>by getting a condenser microphone

Neither of these are condenser mics, anon
>>
>>52006977
Uh... Yes they are? They're not XLR, no, but they are condenser mics. The snowball is a dual cardioid condenser, and the Samson is a 25mm diaphragm standard cardioid pattern condenser
>>
>>52004421
What about a starter interface? What would you recommend?
>>
>>52007113
Depends on number of inputs needed. 1 input, Scarlett solo, 2 inputs Scarlett 2i2, 4 inputs Akai EIE Pro (not as good pres, but killer for the price), more than that, just do your research.
>>
>>52007139
Know anything about the alesis multimix 4 usb fx.
My friend recommended it, but it looks like it has some problems.
>>
>>52007196
I wouldn't start with a mixer. Unless you're very, very good at getting your submix right the first time, or doing live shows, while recording, a mixer type interface is just asking for trouble. These days, you should almost always try to record audio as unaltered as possible, and do your mix digitally, unless you're a trained professional. Even then, most studios still do things this way, to represent amp, mic, and instrument sound accurately in tracking
>>
>>52007288
I did mixing in musical theatre for 4 years, so I'm more worried about the quality, since i used the thousands of dollar mixer mixing 24 channels.

But i will take your suggestion into consideration.

>>52004421
Good guide, anon, I like how it's not edgy and trying to shit on mics.

Thanks, anon. Making good headway in finishing it up

Finally finished, boys.
Sorry it's not the greatest quality ever, but it's the best I could do with this shitty work computer and MS paint.

What would you recommand for daily skype / discord usage? I do play some vidya games with my friends. I was thinking of an at2020 xlr, but I am afraid of anoying my friends with the background noice. Maybe it's better to get a dynamic mic.

>>52008794
Plus I got a quiet voice which sucks

>>52008644
Shit. Wrong draft, boys.
This looks much better

>>52008794
If you play vidya, a dynamic is annoying, because you have to be close to it, to sound decent. If you have an interface, I recommend a lower end condenser mic, if not, read the USB part of the guide for condenser suggestions

Can anyone here vouch for MXL Tempo? It's quite cheap here and wonder if it's worth it.

This is good. Thank you!

>>52008967
Yw, capn' Falcon.

Hopefully people will save it, and use it for mic threads. I imagine it'll be edited at some point, too
>>
>>52008644
Where was this guide when I was shopping for a new mic last week...Anyways pretty good guide anon, saved.
>>
>>52003091
I have the samson, friend gave it to me. it sounds pretty good, if I ever get a new mic it's gonna be a ant lion mod mic probably
>>
>>52009007
Are you hosting this anywhere? I am talking to some people about audio, and I do not have much on microphones yet. If you like, I can turn this into a peripheral guide, like I have with screens and mice.

...but you have to be willing to have it scrutinized and criticized openly, which is not easy!
>>
>>52003091
I own the Samson and it's good.
>>
>>52009074
That's fine anon. Do your worst.
I'm not a qualified professional, but I belive I'm fairly on the money with most of it.

>>52009033
Sorry, bro. I would've made it sooner, had I known! Btw, save the one in >>52008882 instead. It looks better
>>
>>52004421
I have 2 Behringer B2 PRO condenser mics and it's a great low budget mic. It's a big diaphragm, multi pattern mic and it's versatility is a great asset for home studios. I understand your chart if not targeted to home producers but I can't recommend enough for someone who's starting their mic collection and needs an affordable way of getting into multi mic arrays.
>>
>>52009228
Cool. I have saved your guide, but if you email me the text and images, I can turn it into HTML easier.

Thanks!

Yeah, they're all 1st page Google images if you search the names. Anywhere I can file drop that 4chin won't flag as spam?

You can email me, or copy/paste to pastebin. Pastebin is better if you do not want me to have your email.

I have the Blue Snowball and it's great. Really nice quality. I don't know if the other one is better but you won't be disappointed with the Snowball.
>>
>>52003091
I love my Samson. Good sound quality, metal casing, and the retro look is awesome
>>
>>52009756
Got it. Thanks!
>>
>>52003091
I had the Samson one and its OK as long as the room you are the in is quiet.

If you can you should get the audio technica at-2020
