I bought mine from these guys. They're the cheapeat, least clunky, most practical of all the domain purchasing services. You can set up automatic email aliasing (so you can have a <firstName>@<lastName>.com adress), and they have free hosting for blogger sites.
Goddady and the rest big players will soon disappear.

For hosting, Github Pages is free and let's you work through git.

Research hosts, and choose who you think suits you. Maybe AWS.
