I am upgrading from an AMD 6850 to an R9 390 Nitro for $310, is this good? I run dual monitors but only game on one display.

My budget is no more than $350

Yes. You made a good choice.

Thread is over
>>
Yes it is completely fine in every way. There is not a better choice. Next time you have a question, go to >>>/wsr/.
>>
>>51983225
Probably overkill, but good enough deal to avoid buying another anytime soon.
>>
That'll be a great purchase. You can probably find it for less than that though.
>>
r9 390s were on sale for $240 during black friday

Are you retarded?

Is your room temperature already above 20C?
If so, no need for extra heating.

>upgrading from one piece of shit to a different piece of shit

Why don't you do yourself a favor and save up for a few more months and actually invest in something proper
>>
The 390 and 390X are just overclocked and overvolted 290's and 290X's, and as a result, are power-hungry and run hot, they're not bad for an easy 8 gig card, but you're paying an awful lot for an old GPU that's consuming more juice, and the GPU itself will bottleneck any game that actually calls for more than 4 gigs of RAM as mandatory

Stash $100 somehow and wait for baseline Fury's to hit the $450 point, they'll be the ultimate bang-for-buck AMD card at that point, and it'll happen relatively soon, since Sapphire's just started the non-reference PCB versions, and other manufacturers are bound to follow

Maxes at 71C whilst 980 ti gets close to hitting 90.
So nice maymay

like...?
>>
i bought mine for $330 3 months ago and have no regrets. good choice op
>>
go with powercolor 390 same card but cheaper and 2 year warranty cant go wrong
>>
That's not how you measure heat output you simpleton. It's how much power the card consumes not how crappy the cooler is.
>>
I have the exact same card. I have no complaints. The highest temperature I reached was 50c running black ops 3 on max at 1080p.
>>
>>51983225
A 970 will give you less headaches with multi-monitor and independent monitor set-ups and better performance at 1080p.

Hard to determine if he's stupid or just another shill.

>niggers don't check google to see the headaches Radeon cards causes when using more than one monitor
Simply from a user-experience POV, the 970 is better.
>>
>>51983276
Not true, I have a 390x that struggled with skyrim with mods. 1080p.
>>
>>51986972
And I have an A10-6700+R7 270, and run several hundred mods, along with multiple ENB's and still hit 50fps.

Seems you're just shit at modding skyrim.

970 is $260 from evga b-stock and outperforms the 390 easily. If all you do is game at 1080p or 1440p it's the way to go.
>>
970 or 390 simply comes down to which one has the best price when you buy.

otherwise 390 if they're the same.
>>
Also, there's currently a bug in AMD drivers that causes GPUs to clock up to 3D clocks when used in multi monitor configurations, something to consider if your electricity bill is a concern.
>>
>>51987028
Suggestions? Current enb is project enb. I see 45 to 50, and fairly heavy lag when I even look at some things, like the wall behind the sky Forge (jk's skyrim)
>>
>>51983225
just buy a 6970
>>
>tfw current gen GPUs are too shitty to cope with shittily optimized games
>>
>>51985028
It's cheaper, but takes up 3 slots instead of the 2 the Sapphire does. Also the base clock is lower. I like the look of the Sapphire card more than the PCS+, but that's just me. Powercolor's fans look like they're barely hanging on. Powercolor does have full cover waterblocks from EKWB though.
>>51987067
That and if you decide to SLI/Crossfire down the road. 4k/triple monitor setups will benefit a lot more from the 390's 8GB than the 970's 3.5GB.
>>
>>51983225
Im in the exact boat as you. And the only reason I am doing it is for FO4 - which I think is a terrible reason.
>>
>>51984194
it doesn't get that hot. my setup has 100% stock cooling and it very rarely goes above 60c under load
>>
>>51983367
where, i searched all UK, EU websites without finding any.

DESU senpai wait for a sale. BEFORE Black Friday I got an MSI Twin Frozr R9 390 for under $300, I think around $280 or so. Wait for the price to slip after Christmas sales.

>>
>>51983225
why don't you game on two displays?
>>
>>51983225
yes its a good upgrade
>>
>>51983225
Yes it is a good card, proud owner here can say its a beast at 4K and any of Nvidia's shite offerings such as the 3.5GB retard card cannot compete.
>>
>>51992617
Of course you aren't going to find them at that price, gotta pay tax to help the refugees :^)

Jew I mean jet.com has the less desirable 390s for as low as $230 still with coupons. Prices fluctuate a lot so wait a few days.

I think I saw one for $240 but it was the Gigabyte edition that had terrible reviews. It would apparently wouldn't let computers shut down properly.

I can't wait until we start hearing about 390s breaking left and right because they're clearly abusing the chip.
