if linux is so great why havent they reverse engineered the Elgato and Avermedia capture card drivers to work on their distros?

that's the only reason im on windows 10, which is pirated btw so the whole "its free" gimmick doesnt apply and never will for W10 going forward

Literally what, and why?

Pirate windows 7, upgrade to windows 10, ta-da.
You now own a free, legal copy.
What fucking point is there to pirating windows 10 directly/

>thinks it works that way

they dont just take some random key generated

everything is a UUID based on your HDD and system hardware properties which has to ping their servers

also this isnt pre 10, nobody cares if its active or not, it doesnt shut down after 30 days and since i have multiple monitors the watermark is never even seen anyways
>>
>>51956645
>it's free
>gimmick

I don't think you understand. Not only is it free in a financial sense, but it is free as in freedom.
>>
Nobody wants to reverse enginner the drivers of a not-so-used piece of hardware, specially considering that linux driver api is stable as bipolar sjw in her days
>>
>>51957268

its so free that the most widely used and popular distro developer, Shuttleworth had to release a huge release about how 16.04 wont come with pre-set online search functionaility
>>
>>51957290

>not so used
>literally 1 generic version which both generally use the same type of driver no matter which version within the family of devices use

the Elgato software literally comes bulked for the PCI express version, or the 2 external USB verisons of the non-pro versions

and Avermedia also has 1 specific brand that most people use.

infact their are TV tuners which linuxfags have reverse engineered and that shit is more archiac than streaming and recording cards
>>
>>51957339

also besides this, one of the key factors that got me looking back into windows was the simple fact that the MESA/VESA drivers for Intel fucking suck ass

and its not like its some vague hard to find GPU, literally every fucking core series CPU comes with either the 4400 or 4600 graphics on it and mean while fucking random crashes for years cause of graphical memory issues its fucking insane

and the only sign of relieve was full Wayland support which Fedora had, but they are too far up their ass to actually make a usable product, from all the bullshit actually getting it to burn properly onto a USB, to then not having a fucking proper package manager

>inb4 just use the terminal

That means that linux users or developers doednt use your shit piece of hardware then.
Also, that doesnt discard the fact that writting kernel modules that comes from reverse engineering is painful as fuck

Linux team isn't responsible for that kind of thing. But, there is this.
https://github.com/tolga9009/elgato-gchd
>>
>>51957851

that isnt really what i want either

i want to use OBS which has a native linux version

game capture HD is just the software, not the drivers for the elgato and its severally lacking in features to make it a viable replacement to OBS or Xsplit
>>
>>51957883
It's the drivers. But it's in early stages so there's nothing major yet.
>>
>>51957931

i dont really get github an how to read or navigate it, what's the consensus on when there will be close to a 1:1 stable release of the HD60PRO?

if its around the same time as ubuntu 16.04 i might make my switch back, assuming there are tests that show a positive CPU usage comparision and hopefully even better usage(meaning less) compared to doing it on windows
>>
>>51957624

Why don't you type in Internet on that little search bar by the start button, and tell me what you see.
>>
Why doesn't OP just make the drivers himself if he wants to use Linux this bad.

People regularly port entire, functional *nixes to ultra-obscure platforms like Sun-2 workstations and VAX minis, and you think that's a reasonable excuse?

Linux is free as in freedom. Which means the free still applies. It's more control. Shame there are no drivers for your hardware. You could reverse engineer it yourself, but the manufacturer should provide driver. It is a shitty manufacturer who don't

if linux is so great then why doesnt Linus add in keyloggers and trojans to ensure that you are using the operating system within the confines of the law and to prevent you from accidentally unlawfully playing DMR protected content or pirated games?

that's the only reason im on windows 10, which is overseen by the NSA btw, so the whole "what if i pirate something" gimmick doesnt apply and never will for W10 going forward
